The long shot is a shot that contains the person’s entire body in the frame as well as being able to see the environment they are in. In long shots, more is visible. The characters almost fill the frame top-to-bottom, while at the same time the scenery still dominates the scene. Long Shot (Wide Shot)
Medium Shot A typical medium shot is often either framed from the knees or waist up from the subject. It is used when a person is holding an object or talking to another person. There can also be more than one person in the shot. Having only one person is called a single, having two people is called a two-shot, having three people is called a three-shot.
Close Up The close up is where the subject’s face occupies most of the frame. This is usually done to convey more emotion in the actor’s performance.
Aerial Shot (Bird’s-Eye View) The aerial shot is a variation of the high angle and has the camera high above the subject. It is used to show the subject in the location and make them feel small.
Over the shoulder shot It mixes things up from the eye-level shot and puts both the subjects into perspective. This technique establishes that the listener can see something that the subject cannot.
Two and Three-shot These terms indicate the number of people you have in your shot. When you want to have three people in your shot, you use a three-shot. These types of shots are generally used in combination with a medium shot.
