In 1995, tourism revenues amounted to 25.00 million USD, or about 0.066 percent of the gross national product. Within 26 years, the country's dependence on tourism has increased noticeably. Before the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, sales were $391.00 million billion, 0.11 percent of gross national product. In 2020, tourist receipts plummeted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Of the $391.00 million billion (2019), only $217.90 million billion remained. This is a 44 percent decrease in Bangladesh. On average, each of the tourists arriving in 2021 spent about 1,870 US dollars.

Tourism sites are not properly explored, extracted and managed. Lack of investment. Low quality services. Lack of safety, security and hygiene. Lack of infrastructural development. Visa requirement and complex visa procedures. Absence of sales plan and public relation activities. Lack of private initiatives in tourism development. Bangladesh cannot offer tourist products and destination packages exclusively to local and foreign tourists. As a result, tourists have to go back to their home with low level of satisfaction.

Finally we can say, tourism is one of the most promising sectors for Bangladesh with her huge natural beauty, heroic historical background and archaeological resources. This research has identified whether the contribution of this sector is significant to total GDP of Bangladesh and its future prospects as research problem.
