3. Its etymology comes from the French word “ carierre ” which means a road or a race course , which in turn comes from the Latin “ cararia ” which refers to track for wheeled vehicles.

5. Career planning   is a subset of career management. Career is an ongoing process and so it needs to be assessed on continuous basis. This process of re-assessing individual learning and development over a period of time is called Career Planning.

6. The Four Steps of Career Planning Process

7. Self Gather information about yourself (self assesment ) Interests, Values, Roles, Skills/Aptitudes, Preferred Environments, Developmental Needs, Your realities

8. Options Explore the occupations in which you are interested Get more specific information after you narrow down your options

9. Match During this process, you will: Identify possible occupations Choose both a short term and a long term option

10. Action You will develop the steps you need to take in order to reach your goal, for example: Investigating sources of additional training and education, if needed Developing a job search strategy Writing your resume Preparing for job interview

11. Significance of Career Planning

12. It is important to come up with your career planning as it gives you the much needed direction and makes it clear there where you see yourself in future .

13. It makes you aware of your strength and weaknesses and the skills and knowledge that are required to achieve your goals in future.

14. SMART way: S pecific (well-defined & detailed) M easurable (can evaluate progress) A ttainable (within reach) R ealistic (practical) T ime-bound (within a time frame)
