ESTIMATION
LESSON VOCABULARY QUANTITY amount or number of a material, item, or measurement. a determinate quantity adopted as a standard of measurement. cost of goods sold or cost per unit sold. UNIT COST UNIT
EXAMPLE You need to buy a 60 inches length of fabric to be used in making a dress to your customer. You have known that the cost of the fabric that you are going to use is P5.00 per centimeter. How much will you need to buy it?
Step 1 : Convert the 60 inches length of fabric into centimeters. Given: 60 inches length of fabric Inches to centimeter = 2.54 60 inches X 2.54 cm 152.4 cm
Step 2: Multiply the cost per centimeter to the length of fabric converted. Given: Length of fabric converted: 152.4 cm Cost per cm: Php 5.00 Solution: 152.4 cm X Php 5.00 ___ Php 762.00
Sample computations for fabric, and other supplies in sewing
Step 1 : To compute the supplies needed in sewing, multiply the quantity with the unit cost to get the total cost. Example: 3 yards X Php 25.00 Php 75.00
Step 2 :To get the over-all total cost of the supplies, sum-up by adding all the prices under total cost column. Example : Php 75.00 Php 15.00 + Php 12.50 Php 30.00 Php 5.00 ___ Php 135.00
EXAMPLE You need to purchase a 45 inch length of lace fabric to create a custom gown for a client. The lace fabric costs Php 4.50 per centimeter. How much will you need to buy the fabric?
Step 1 : Convert the 45 inches length of fabric into centimeters.
Given: Length of lace fabric-45 inches Inches = 2.54 cm Solution: 45 inches × 2.54 cm 180 + 225 90_____ 114. 30 cm.
Step 2: Multiply the cost per centimeter by the length of the fabric converted.
Given: Length of fabric converted = 114.3 cm Cost of fabric n centimeter= 4. 50 per cm. Solution: 114.3 cm x 4.50___ ooo0 + 5715 4572 ____ 514.35 Php
Sample computations for fabric, and other supplies in sewing
Step 1: To compute the supplies needed in sewing, multiply the quantity with the unit cost to get the total cost.
Solution: 2 yards x 30 = Php 60 1 spool x 20 = Php 20 1 piece x 25 = Php 25 ½ yard x 12 = Php 12 5 pieces x 8 = Php 40
Step 2 - To get the over-all total cost of the supplies, sum-up by adding all the prices under total cost column.
Directions : Complete the table by computing for the over-all total cost, and the price of each supplies and materials needed for sewing a complete set of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) of a doctor. Copy the table and put the answer on a sheet of paper.
Solution: 2 ½ meters x 75 = Php 187.50 1 spool x 8 = Php 8 ½ meter x 2 = Php 1 1/4 pieces x 10 = Php 2.50
