Carvidon MR (Generic Trimetazidine Hydrochloride Tablets) is used in adults as add-on therapy for the symptomatic treatment of patients with stable angina pectoris who are inadequately controlled by or intolerant to first-line antianginal therapies. This medicine is also prescribed and in some countries (including France) for tinnitus as well as dizziness.
Controlled studies conducted in angina patients have shown that trimetazidine increases coronary flow reserve, thereby delaying the onset of ischemia associated with exercise, limits rapid swings in blood pressure without any significant variations in heart rate, significantly decreases the frequency of angina attacks, and leads to a significant decrease in the use of nitrates.

Uses of Carvidon MR Tablets
Carvidon MR (Generic Trimetazidine Hydrochloride tablets) is a
medicine used to prevent angina attacks, which are sudden pains to
the chest, jaw and back brought on by physical effort, due to reduced
blood flow to the heart. Angina is commonly associated with a
narrowing of the blood vessels that supply the heart, called the
coronary arteries.
Trimetazidine is a 'metabolic agent', a medicine which has an effect on

Carvidon MR Tablets Dosage

The dosage of Carvidon MR tablets (Generic Trimetazidine

The recommended adult dose of Carvidon MR is one tablet of 35 mg of
Trimetazidine twice daily during meals.
The benefit of Carvidon MR therapy should be assessed after
three months and therapy must be discontinued if there is no
treatment response.
Renal Impairment: In patients with moderate renal impairment
(creatinine clearance [30 to 60] ml/min), the recommended dose is 1
tablet of 35 mg in the morning during breakfast.

Carvidon MR Tablets Contraindications
Carvidon MR tablets are contraindicated in patients with a
hypersensitivity to Trimetazidine Hydrochloride or any other
component of this medication.
Other contraindications include Parkinson disease, parkinsonian

related movement disorders and Severe renal impairment

Storage Instructions

Carvidon MR Tablets (Generic Trimetazidine

controlled room temperature i.e. from 20°C to

Warnings

This medicine is not a cure for angina attacks and should not be used as a
treatment for unstable angina or heart attack.
In the case of an angina attack, tell your doctor. Your treatment must be
re-evaluated.
This medicine can cause or worsen symptoms such as trembling, rigid
posture, slow movements and a shuffling, unbalanced walk, especially in
elderly patients, which should be investigated and reported to your doctor
who could reassess the treatment.
Caution should be exercised when prescribing Trimetazidine to patients
with moderate renal impairment as increased exposure of the drug is
expected.

Side Effects
Side effects of Trimetazidine Hydrochloride (Carvidon MR Tablets) are
given below:
Common: Dizziness, headache, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, indigestion,
feeling sick, vomiting, rash, itching, hives and feeling of weakness.
Rare: Fast or irregular heartbeats (also called palpitations), extra
heartbeats,faster heartbeat, fall in blood pressure on standing-up which
causes dizziness, light headiness or fainting, malaise (generally feeling
unwell), dizziness, fall, flushing.
Not known: Extrapyramidal symptoms (unusual movements, including
trembling and shaking of the hands and fingers, twisting movements of
the body, shuffling walk and stiffness of the arms and legs), usually
reversible after treatment discontinuation.

Side Effects
Not known: Sleep disorders (difficulty in sleeping, drowsiness),
constipation, serious generalised red skin rash with blistering,
swelling of the face, lips, mouth, tongue or throat which may cause
difficulty in swallowing or breathing.
Severe reduction in number of white blood cells which makes
infections more likely, reduction in blood platelets, which increases
risk of bleeding or bruising. A liver disease (nausea, vomiting, loss of
appetite, feeling generally unwell, fever, itching, yellowing of the
skin and eyes, light coloured bowel motions, dark coloured urine).

Carvidon MR Tablets During Pregnancy
Trimetazidine Hydrochloride (Carvidon MR Tablets) has been
classified by the US FDA as Pregnancy Category C.
There is no data from the use of Trimetazidine in pregnant women.
Animals studies do not indicate direct or indirect harmful effects
with respect to reproductive toxicity.
As a precautionary measure, it is preferable to avoid the use of
Carvidon MR tablets during pregnancy.
