Psychotherapy can be defined as, the treatment by psychological means of the problems of an emotional nature, in which therapist deliberately establishes a professional relationship with the patient to Remove, modify or retard existing symptoms Mediate disturbed patterns of behavior Promote positive personality growth and development

Cognitive Behaviour therapy Psychoanalysis Behaviour therapy Supportive psychotherapy Family and Marital therapy

People are disturbed not by things, but by the view which they take of them

Cognitive behaviour therapy relies on behavioral techniques but adds a cognitive element, focusing on the problematic thoughts that lie behind behaviors.

CBT is based on the idea that how we think (cognition), how we feel (emotion) and how we act (behavior) all interact together.  Specifically, our thoughts determine our feelings and our behavior.

CBT is based on the concept that your thoughts, feelings, physical sensations and actions are interconnected, and that negative thoughts and feelings can trap you in a vicious cycle. CBT aims to help you deal with  problems in a more positive way by breaking them down into smaller parts. how to change these negative patterns to improve the way you feel . CBT deals with your current problems, rather than focusing on issues from your past.

ABCDE Model A ctivating event B elief system C onsequences (Emotional and behavioural ) D ispute (Thoughts) E ffective (thoughts) F eeling (New feelings)

A does not cause C , instead B , which is the person’s belief about A , largely causes C , the emotional reaction

YOU are responsible for your emotions Ur harmful emotion and dysfunction behaviour are the product of ur irrational thinking UR thoughts affects ur emotions

Irrational thoughts I have no control over this situation No one really cares about me Its not fair that I am being treated this way I can’t return to my old job, I am worthless

Rational response Its true that I can’t change what happened, but I can control how I respond.

There are people in my life that I can turn to for support and love

Life is not always fair. Sometimes things go my way, other times they don’t.
