INTRODUCTION C ellular radio systems supply the high-mobility, wide-ranging, two-way wireless voice communications . Cellular phone can be connected to the telephone system using radio waves. Cellular radio system create at the end of the 70s and fully implemented in 1980 is known as Advance Mobile Phone service (AMPS).
DEFINING Radio communication based on a network of transmitters each serving a small area known as a cell : used in personal communications systems in which the mobile receiver switches frequencies automatically as it passes from one cell to another.
PRINCIPLES The sender and receiver where it divided the services to the smaller region is cell. Each cell consists of receiver and sender with low power is called Radio Base Station(RBS). Each cell is connected by the telephone lines or microwaves to main control center is called Mobile Telephone Switching Office(MTSO)
CHARACTERISTICS When user moves out of one cell to another cell , they automatic switching system to the another RBS. Recipient in each cell will monitor the signal power of the mobile unit. When signal power falls to a level less than the set level ,or reference, then it will automatically be switched to a high level through the near RBS
BASIC COMPONENTS (a)Unit mobile (b)MTSO (c)RBS
2 . Radio Base Station(RBS) Is an outside station-guard cells controller that received instructions from the MTSO. Using the radio channel that found in every cell including the voice channels and control channels. Supervise the call which includes monitoring on speech quality and measurement on the power of the voice signal. Send and receive voice signal and data form/to consumers.
3.Mobile Telephone Switching Office(MTSO) A mobile switching center as the heart of the system. Perform the switching operation between cellular network and telephone network. Implementing supervisory that determine and updating the locations of mobile units when there is movement from one cell to another cell. Receive and process data received from the RBS include the status of mobile units, diagnostic data, information for billing data text and so on. Implementing the flow to determine the appropriate cells and the necessary radio channels when a call is to be made.
Transmitter: Low- power FM transmitter. Frequency Synthesizer: To generate the signal for the use of transmitter and receiver. Receiver: Dual-conversion superhetrodin. Logic Unit: consists of main control unit for cellular unit Control Unit: consists of speaker, microphone and keypad(touch-tone).
CHANNELS Radio Channel: Is a two way transmission path between the RBS and mobile units. Control Channel: Is used for transmission of data and control the flow data when mobile unit is ON. Voice Channel: Is conversation signal and used during conversation take place.
ANTENNA Antenna is used as a medium of communication between the receiver and transmitter signal. In Radio Base Station has two types. They are, Omni directional Directional
