Cellular reproduction and Division

Reproduction: The formation of new individuals 1 of 8 characteristics of life 2 Types of reproduction Asexual and Sexual

Asexual Reproduction: 1) Single parent cell dividing 2) Offspring genetically identical 3) Prokaryotic cells like bacteria 4) Simple, hast and efficient process

Sexual reproduction: 1) Offspring produced by fusion of two separate parent cells. 2) Offspring not identical to parents 3) Eukaryotes 4) Slower and creates fewer offspring

Cell Division: Before a cell gets too large it divides forming two “daughter” cells.

Chromosomes: Chromosomes are a structure of DNA and protein that contain the genetic information. Role in cell division: Holds the genetic information] Prepares/packs it for cell division

Prokaryotic Chromosomes: Located in the cytoplasm Contain a single , circular DNA chromosome. Division called binary fission- produces two identical organisms.

Binary Fission

Eukaryotic chromosomes: Located in the nucleus. Chromosomes made up of sister chromatids attached at the centromere.

Eukaryotic Chromosomes:
