Central Board for Secondary Education

Introduction
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is
a national-level educational board in India that
governs various public and private schools affiliated
with it.
Established in 1962, CBSE is renowned for its
comprehensive curriculum and standardized testing
procedures.
It functions under the Union Government of India's
Ministry of Education.

Present Scenario
In the present day, CBSE is the largest educational board in India,
with thousands of schools affiliated to it, both within the country and
abroad.
Approximately 20,299(2019) schools in India and 220 schools in 28
foreign countries affiliated to the CBSE.
It conducts various examinations, including the All India Secondary
School Examination (AISSE) for Class 10 and the All India Senior
School Certificate Examination (AISSCE) for Class 12.
And other competitive exams like the Joint Entrance Examination
(JEE) for engineering and the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test
(NEET) for medical studies.

Characterstics
Standardised curriculum across the country
established by the NCERT.
Most entrance exams conducted in the country for
college admission follow this syllabus.
Board exams are OPTIONAL in 10th grade and
MANDATORY in 12th Grade.
Favoured by those who constantly relocate within

Council for the Indian School Certificate
Examinations

Introduction
The Council for the Indian School Certificate
Examinations (CISCE) is a non governmental privately
held premier national-level educational board in India.
Established in 1958,
It is renowned for its commitment to academic
excellence, holistic development, and innovative
teaching methodologies.
CISCE conducts examinations and certifications for
students completing their secondary and higher
secondary education in schools affiliated with the
board.

Present Scenario
Over 2750 schools in India and abroad are
affiliated to the CISCE.
It is also recognised as a 'Non-Governmental
National Board of Secondary Education'.
It conducts ICSE exam for Class 10 And ISC
exam for Class 12 like CBSE conducts AISSE for
Class 10 and AiSSCE for Class 12

Major Characteristics
Full fledge library Compulsory.
Principal is given free hand to decide which books to use in
his/her school.
Freedom and flexibility are the main features of ICSE.
No standard wise text books for primary level; list of
reference books suggested.
Class has maximum of 40 students.
Students with learning disabilities are given special favour.

Group 1
Compulsory Subjects

Curriculum of I.C.S.E. Board
All subjects have components of internal assessment.
Internal marks are carried out by schools on the basis of project
work/assignments.
20% weightage for internal assessment in group I and Il and 50% weightage
for group III.
In subjects where there are more than one paper eg. Science, the marks
obtained in the subject calculated by taking the average of all the
papers(Bio, Chem and Physics) in the subject.
ICSE results are taken from best of five from six subjects. English marks are
compulsory.
ICSE has two papers in English.
Three papers in Science group.
Two papers in Social studies.

International Baccalaureate (IB)

Introduction
International Baccalaureate (IB), formerly known as
the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO),
is an international educational foundation.
Found in 1968.
Headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland.
IB has a presence in over 150 countries throughout
the world.
In India since 1976.
Mode of teaching is in 3 languages: English,
French or Spanish.

The IB offers an education for students from age 3 to 19.
Schools can choose to offer any or all of the programs.
PROGRAMS OF IB

PRIMARY YEARS PROGRAMME
PYP prepares students to become active, caring, lifelong, learners who show
respect for themselves and others.
Capacity to participate in the world around them.
Age range: 3 - 12
Subjects in the Primary Years Programme (PYP) are :
Language.
Social Studies.
Mathematics.
Science and Technology.
Arts.
Personal, Social and Physical education.
In the final year of the PYP, student, carry out an extended, in-depth,
collaborative project

MIDDLE YEARS PROGRAMME
Encourages students to make practical connections between their studies and
the real world.
Age range: 11 - 16
Middle Years Programme (MYP) comprises eight subject groups :
• Language acquisition, Language and literature, Individual and societies.
Sciences.
Mathematics.
Arts.
Physical and health education.
Design.
In the final year of the programme, MYP e-Assessment provides IB-validated
grades based on examinations and course work.

DIPLOMA PROGRAMME (DP)
The programme aims to develop students who are have excellent
breadth and depth of knowledge- students who flourish physically,
intellectually, emotionally and ethically.
Age range : 16 - 19
Subjects in Diploma Programme:
Students who pursue the IB diploma must take six subjects :
One each from Groups 1 - 5 and either one from Group 6 or a
permitted substitute from one of the other groups.

DIPLOMA PROGRAMME (DP)
Three or four subjects must be taken at Higher level (HL) and the rest at
Standard level
To be awarded an IB diploma, a candidate must fulfill three core
requirements in addition to passing his or her examinations:
Extended Essay
Creativity, Activity, Service
Theory of knowledge.

DIPLOMA PROGRAMME (DP)
The IB uses both external and internal assessment in the DP.
Students take written examinations at the end of their courses, marked by
external examiners.
Marks awarded for each course range from 1 (lowest) to 7 (highest).

RECOGNITION
IB works closely with universities in all regions of the world to gain recognition fo
the IB diploma.
University admissions officers and government officials have direct online
access to all syllabi and recent examinations.
To assist IB diploma students in making appropriate choices, the organization
holds a database containing details of universities around the world with up-to-
date information about their requirements for admission.
INTERNATIONAL:
IBDP is an internationally accepted and acclaimed Pre-University Course.
INDIA:
IBDP is being recognized by the Association of Indian Universities as
equivalent to the +2 stage qualification of an Indian Boards

International General Certificate of Secondary
Education

Introduction
The International General Certificate of Secondary
Education or IGCSE as it is known, is one of the most
recognized secondary level qualifications in the world.
It is administered by the prestigious institution, the
University of Cambridge in England.
The ties of the Cambridge International Examinations with
India, date back a century.

I.G.C.S.E. Subjects
More than 70 subjects are offered by IGCSE.
Each group in IGCSE curriculum has five subject groups with
several subjects within.
A student should take a minimum of five subjects and a
maximum of 14 subjects.
English, Mathematics and Sciences are the core subjects.
For each subject, one IGCSE Certificate will be awarded i.e. for
five subjects, five certificates will be awarded.
The IGCSE is graded on an 8-point scale from A to G with a 9th
grade "U" signifying "Ungraded".

I.G.C.S.E. Grading

Recognition
IGCSE is a globally recognized English language curriculum.
Many schools follow SSC and CBSE curriculum, several
international schools follow the IGCSE curriculum.
IGCSE is taken in over 100 countries by an annual candidate
entry of more than 250,000.
Grade C in IGCSE English satisfies the English proficiency
requirements of many universities in the UK and other Anglophone
countries.
Most of the International Universities prefer students who have at
least one IGCSE Certification.

State Board of Education are prominent educational body
responsible for overseeing school education in the states of
India.
Established with the aim of providing quality education to the
students of the state
State boards of education plays a pivotal role in shaping the
academic landscape of their respective states

Major Characterstics
Implementation of the syllabus/curriculum of all the grades,
textbooks, exam schedule, and type.
Responsible for creation of textbooks, scoring of the centralized
tests, and conducting examinations.
State Board are comparatively limited in the content and subjects
as compared to other Boards. (ICSE and CBSE Board)
State language is compulsory.
Seats are reserved in the state recognized colleges and
universities.
Hassle free admission process.
Comparatively less expensive.
Board conducts examination twice a year.
