MECHANISM OF ACTION Cetirizine competes with histamine for binding at H 1 -receptor sites on the effector cell surface, resulting in suppression of histaminic edema, flare, and pruritus . Cetirizine is a non-sedating antihistamine that works by blocking histamine (H-1) receptors on cells . It is similar to the other second generation antihistamines
DESCRIPTION A potent second-generation histamine H1 antagonist that is effective in the treatment of allergic rhinitis, chronic urticaria , and pollen-induced asthma. Unlike many traditional antihistamines, it does not cause drowsiness or anticholinergic side effects. Cetirizine and other second-generation antihistamines do not readily enter the brain from the blood, and, therefore, they cause less drowsiness.
Used to relieve allergy symptoms such as watery eyes runny nose itching eyes/nose sneezing
Common side effects include headache dry mouth feeling sick dizziness tummy pain diarrhoea .
