3. IMPORTANCE OF WATER Water is a very important natural resource. Some of the uses of water are given below

4. FOR SUSTAINING LIFE : Water is a major constituent of living organism. It is required by animals to perform various body function such as digestion. In plants, water is needed for transport of substances and for germination of seeds.

5. IN households : We need water for drinking. We also use it for cleaning, cooking, bathing and washing.

6. In agriculture : Water is essential for the irrigation of crops in fields. Paddy , wheat and sugarcane are crops that need a lot of water.

7. In industries: Most industries use water at various levels of production. Water may be used as raw material, a solvent or a coolant. Demand for water has increased many-folds in this areas due to growing industrialization and dependency of people on factory made products.

8. In generating electricity: River water is stored in high dams and is converted into electricity.
