CHANGES IN DONOR SELECTION AND DEFERRAL CRITERIA INDIA NEW 2025 UPDATES

Hello. This is Dr. Samhati Tripathy from Department of Transfusion Medicine , S.C.B. M.C.H., Odisha, India. The donor selection and deferral criteria for whole blood and apheresis donors in India has been updated in January 2025. Therefore all blood bank professionals need to have thorough knowledge of what has changed. So that we can expand the donor pool and increase repeat donations by existing donors. Very significantly, the criteria for thyroid diseases, epilepsy and secondary polycythemia donors has been relaxed a lot. And double apheresis donors criteria has been added. Other changes are relatively minor but we still need to know about them.
