CHAPTER 11
PERIMETER AND AREA
11.1. Perimeter of a region
1.The perimeter of a region: A total length of the
boundaries that completely enclose the region.
Example:
The perimeter of the shaded region is
3 + 8 + 15 + 3 + 13 = 42 cm.
12 cm3 cm
8 cm
15 cm
3 cm
5 cm
2.The area of a region: The total number of
squares completely covered by the region.
3.The area of a shape can be estimated by
the following method:
a. Trace the shape on a piece of grid paper.
b. Count and tick () the number of
complete squares covered by the shape
c. An incomplete square is not counted if
less than half of the square is covered.
The estimated area of the shaded region is
5 cm².
