•A system of glands that secrete
hormones into the human bloodstream.

3. Suffix
•A group of letters attached to the end of
a word to change or contribute to its
meaning.
•Examples:
•-dipsia
•-prandial

4. -dipsia
•The suffix -dipsia means “thirst”
•Examples:
•Hydroadipsia
•Oligodipsia
•Polydipsia

5. Hydroadipsia
•Absence of thirst for water
•Hydro: water
•a: without
•dipsia: thirst

6. Oligodipsia
•Abnormal lack of thirst
•Oligo: few
•dipsia: thirst

7. Polydipsia
•Excessive thirst
•Poly: much or many
•dipsia: thirst

8. -prandial
•The suffix -prandial means “relating to a
meal”
•From Latin: Prandium
•Examples:
•Postprandial
•Preprandial

9. Preprandial
•Prior to a meal
•Pre: before
•prandial: meal

•Following a meal
