work towards a particular goal or
outcome. It's relevant to all of society
but is especially important to business
and management.
Maslow's
theory
•Maslow's idea that people
aremotivated by satisfying
lower-level needs such as
food, water, shelter, and
security, before they can
move on to being motivated
by higher-level needs such as
self-actualization, is the most
well-known motivation
theory in the world
Herzberg theory
•Frederick Herzberg theorized
thatemployee satisfaction has
twodimensions: “hygiene” and
motivation. Hygiene issues, such as
salary and supervision, decrease
employees' dissatisfaction with the
work environment. Motivators, such
as recognition and achievement,
make workers more productive,
creative and committed
Mcclelland
Motivational
theory
•McClelland's Human
Motivation Theory states
thatevery person has one of
three main driving
motivators: the needs for
achievement, affiliation, or
power. These motivators are
not inherent; we develop
them through our culture and
life experiences. Achievers
like to solve problems and
achieve goals
Vroom theory of
motivation
•Victor Vroom's expectancy theory of
motivation is a process theory of
motivation. It says that
anindividual's motivation is
affected by their expectations
about the future. ... Motivation is a
function of valence, instrumentality
and expectancy
Porter and Lawler
motivation model
•The Porter and Lawler model
is aprocess model that
explains the conditions and
processes (contingencies)by
which motivation to work
takes place. the variables of a
process, the interactions
between those variables, and
the dynamic conditions under
which those variables work.
