INFLUENCE ON PHYSICAL
DEVELOPMENT AND PEDAGOGICAL
IMPLICATIONS
The child and adolescent
present by:
Egi Magdaong and Mark Vincent Bellen
The pace of physical development can be attributed to
many factors. The genetic readiness and it's process of
unfolding, referred to maturation, and provision in the
environment are essentially determinant of physical
development.Due to one's enherited characteristics,wether
physical or not,are expected to be come evident at a
specific period of time .Other manifest these developments
early on,while some will have them later in the
development stages.
Physical development is influenced by genetic readiness,
maturation, and environmental provisions. Some individuals
may experience physical development early, while others
may later. Opportunities in the environment, such as
activities, interaction, and learning experiences, also
contribute to physical development. Biological sources play
a significant role in physical development, and these factors
are crucial in the learning process. The chapter will discuss
how these factors are seen in the classroom and their
implications.
Since parents are the immediate environment of the
developing child,their impact is considered
unmeasurable, most especially during the early stage of
life. The parenting beliefs are usually translated into
practice and may affect the range of opportunities
provided to the child.
Parental Contribution
Parental contribution can refer to various forms of support
that parents provide to their children. An example is
financial support for education, such as covering tuition
fees or providing allowances for books and supplies.
Another example is emotional support, like encouraging a
child to pursue their interests and being involved in their
activities, such as attending school events or helping with
homework.
The Extended model of care
The child rearing beliefs, knowledge and practices cannot only be
attributed to the parent themselves but also as a product of
one's cultural embeddedness. The manner by which children are
approach is a reflection of a collective belief about people in
general. The internal working model or the mental
representation of self and others are basis in terms of choosing
certain behaviors towards children.
Child rearing beliefs and practices are influenced by cultural
beliefs and internal working models. In Filipino culture, physical
activities are based on gender beliefs, with boys being allowed
more physical activities and girls limited. This results in physical
progress being more prominent, with boys having more
flexibility in sexual attitudes and behavior. Despite some
liberated approaches, many Filipino parents still adhere to
cultural expectations and beliefs about physical development,
limiting children's engagement in activities that romote physical
growth.
Psychosocial Opportunities
Although physical development is seen as significantly rooted from
biological and genetic processes and whatever changes appear are
attributed as product of these processes. However, social
interaction, whether of the same age or not, can actually provide
assistance in increasing opportunities for physical development.
Among these opportunities are the amount of play engagement
children are provided. Aside from the social benefits of play, it is
also a venue that allows to exercise muscles and can have direct
impact in the weight of children.
Physical development is influenced by biological and genetic
processes, but social interaction can increase opportunities for
physical development. Play engagement in children helps exercise
muscles and affects their weight. Social connections during
adolescents help deal with physical changes, while group activities in
adults encourage physical activity and muscle development. The
quality of social interaction contributes to the degree of
engagement in physically-enhancing activities, promoting overall
physical development.
Physical Environment
Physical environment refers to the non-social aspects of the one's
environment, such as but not limited to, the place where one lives and
the accompanying materials within it. Space, for instance, is
significantly important for one to have more opportunities for
movements. Children who lives with limited space may not warrant
activities that require gross motor. Considering that changes in the
living spaces people (i.e. condominium) where spaces both outside and
inside the house is not very generous, physical activities become
optional than a constantly available opportunity
Physical environment refers to non-social aspects of one's
environment, including space, living conditions, and materials.
Limited space can limit physical activities, especially for children.
Changes in living spaces and the availability of digital gadgets can
reduce physical engagement and delay physical development. Air
pollution and garbage contribute to health issues, with children
more susceptible to respiratory issues and deadly viruses.
Mismanagement of waste and poor waste disposal can also
increase the risk of illnesses like diarrhea and dengue, especially
for weaker immune systems.
Nutritional knowledge and practices
Knowledge and practices about the nutritional components
of what one is eating can have short and long-term effect.
The degree by which health is given an attention should be
the same as to the degree that nutritional aspect should be
given attention. Considering the era of commercialism,
food has not only been filled with preservatives as well as
regarded as a lifestyle
Nutritional aspects of diet can have both short and long term
affects on health.Commercialism has led to a preference for
preservative filled goods, which can be expensive and
influenced by media advertisement. People's quality of food
also depends on their location, with those in agricultural areas
tending to eat natural, healthy food. The availability of sugar
filled food has increased the number of diabetes cases and
manufacturers are using unnatural address these issues.
