About Chhattisgarh: Chhattisgarh is a land locked state in Central India. It is the ninth largest state in India by area, and has a population of 30 million, making it the seventeenth populous state in the country. It is one of the fastest developing states in India. It is a resource-rich state, has coal, steel and iron reserves which provide raw materials to the rest of the country. It also has the third largest forest cover in the country.
Relief features in Chhattisgarh: The northern and Southern parts of the state are hilly, while the Central part is a fertile plain. The Rihand River, a tributary of Ganga, drains in this area. The eastern end of The Satpura Range to the Western Edge of Chotanagar Plateau form a water divide that divides the Mahanadi River basin from the Indo-Gangetic Plain. The shape of Chhattisgarh looks like a Sea Horse. The central part of the state has extensive rice cultivation. Mahanadi River is the chief river in the state.
Tourist attractions: Due to high forest cover, Chhattisgarh is known for its multiple National Parks, Tiger reserves. Achanakmar-Amarkantak Biosphere Reserve is UNESCO recognized Biosphere with total area of 383,551 hectares. Koriya, in Chhattisgarh is known for its minerals deposits. The natural environment of Koriya includes forests, mountains, rivers and waterfalls. The Amrit Dhara Waterfall, Koriya’s main attraction, is a natural waterfall that originates from the Hasdeo River. The Amrit Dhara Waterfall fall from a height of 27m, and is approximately 3-4.5m wide.
