2. SYNONYMS Chita, Lead Wort , Chitrakmula , Vahni , Vellakeduvelli , Kodiveli

3. BOTANICAL SOURCE It consists of the dried root part of plumbago zeylanica . FAMILY :- plumbaginaceae Distribution :- Found throughout  India. It is also cultivated at some places.

4. DIFFERENT VERITIES The following varieties are found :- P. Zeylanica - White; P . rosea L . – Red and P. Capensis Thunk - Blue. For all therapeutic purposes, Plumbago zeylanica or the white variety is used.

5. DIFFERENCES :- PLUMBAGO INDICA L. PLUMBAGO ZEYLANICA SYNONYMS:- rosy – flowered leadwort ( HINDI :- raktachitra ) SYNONYMS :- ceylong leadwort ( HINDI :- swetachita ) DESCRIPTION :- flower bright red, long terminal spikes, corolla tube is 4 times longer as their calyx. DESCRIPTION :- flower white, elongated spikes, pointed glandular persistent calyx. HABITATE :- throughout india , in moist situation. HABITATE :- in southern india , malaysia & in africa . PARTS USED :- only root PARTS USED :- leaves & root C.C. :- a fatty alcohol, tannins, Pelagonidine C.C. :- plumbagin USES:- astringents, antihellmentics USES:- treat leprosy, in treatment of dysentery & digestive problems.

6. MORPHOLOGY:- Shape :- cylindrical Size :- 5-6 mm in diameter, 3-7 cm in length. Colour :- reddish to dark brown Surface :- smooth, finely longitudinally striated with numerous shallow fissures at palces Fracture :- hard Taste :- pungent Odour :- disagreeable
