Cindy
Concept Smartwatch for Type 1 Diabetes

Dedication
“You couldn't always cover my pain with joy, but you gave it meaning.”

1. Introduction

The Cindy smartwatch is a conceptual wearable device designed specifically for people living with
Type 1 Diabetes.

Unlike commercial wearables mainly focused on fitness or lifestyle, Cindy is conceived as a
medical-grade, long-lasting tool, combining durability, elegance, and life-saving features.

Its mission goes beyond technology: it aims to provide continuous support while offering an
emotional connection, symbolized by its dedication.

2. Design Overview

• Form factor: circular watch face, 38–40 mm diameter, ~10.5 mm thickness

• Materials: grade 2 titanium case, sapphire glass, interchangeable straps (vegan leather,
Milanese mesh, silicone)

• Style: professional yet elegant, “sweetening” the harshness of daily disease management —
inspired by Lucretius’ metaphor: the honey on the rim of the bitter medicine cup

3. Technical Specifications

• Always-On mode for essential data (glucose values, status ring)

4. Motivations for Design Choices

• Circular 38–40 mm form factor: light, elegant, designed with female users in mind but
universally appealing

• Titanium case: balance of strength and comfort

• Dual fixed cameras: more reliable than rotating modules, ensuring certification readiness

• Dedicated SOS button: critical safety feature for a medical-grade device

• Replaceable battery: fights planned obsolescence, ensuring long-term sustainability

• AMOLED LTPO display: combines visual clarity with optimized energy consumption

6. Conclusion

Cindy is more than a smartwatch: it represents a vision of resilience, care, and dignity for people
with Type 1 Diabetes.

Its design blends medical necessity with emotional narrative, proving that healthcare technology
can be both functional and meaningful.

The dedication reminds us: technology may not erase pain, but it can transform it into meaning.
