Persecution did not hinder them from going and boldly proclaiming the Lord from Palestine to the Roman Empire, the heart of persecution. Emperor Nero in 64 CE initiated the barbaric persecution of Christians
As the persecution of the Church ended, Christians no longer hid in secret for communal prayer and celebration of the Sacraments. They began to build churches that became the symbol of God's presence in their midst. Many were converted to the faith. A lot of converts were accepted to the faith without proper instruction and formation, which resulted to confusion and the existence of erroneous teachings.
Great Teacher of the Church
During this doctrinal crisis of the Church, the Church had some excellent t eachers who clarified the teachings of the Church, both in preaching and in their writings. They contributed to the formulation of the doctrines of the Incarnation, the Passion of Jesus Christ, the Trinity, the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Commandments, and the Sacraments. Among these exemplary theologians were Basil the Great, Gregory of Nyssa, Gregory of Nazianzus, Ambrose, Augustine of Hippo, Chrysostom, and Jerome.
