Climbers A climber is a part that grows upwards by attaching itself to other plants or objects. A plant that lacks rigidity and grows upwards by twining, scrambling or clinging with tendrils and suckers. Climber plants have weak and soft stem.They need support to stand and grow straight. Example- Money plant and Grape vine.
Uses of Climbers Climbers are used for various purposes, mostly these days for the showy flowers of certain varieties. There are however various other reasons for growing climbers such as:
Climbing plants for walls and fences : - A climber on a wall will create a softer appearance and help reduce temperature extremes i.e. keeping the garden cooler on a hot day. Example: Creeping fig ( Ficus pumila ).
2. Climbers for food : - Some climbers produce edible fruits. Example: Grapes, Kiwi, etc.
3. Climber used for decoration : - They are used to cover walk ways. Example: Bougainwillea.
Covering slopes as ground cover. Example: Blue Passion Flower Used for shading. Example: Japanese Honeysuckle Avenue planting. Example: Rosewood Climber plants for topiary. Example: Cat’s claw creeper Landscaping Uses of Climbers
