Definition Clinic refers to a place where outdoor patients come to physicians and members of health team for treatment and follow up treatment. Clinic is the place where patients, who can move bout or are not hospitalized come for check up or treatment. It is the place where preliminary diagnosis of patient is done and treatment given.

Location of clinic Clinic should be s et up within or near by community. Location should be acceptable to all The clinic and waiting area should be safe for children.

Criteria for good clinic Location should be accessible and acceptable to community people. Clinic should be well organized with effective flow chart for one station to another. There should be effective recording and reporting system. Health education facilities should be available in clinics.
General Clinics General clinics are the clinics where any person can be attended with any health problem. More convenient. Arranged for examination, diagnosis, treatment o f all minor ailments. E.g. Immunization Clinic, Dental Clinics, X- ray clinics.
Separate Clinics These clinics runs on different days of weeks. Includes Maternal and child health clinics. MCH services are provided through these clinics. These clinics are part of community programme. Provide need based services to people. Speciality Clinics These clinics provide medical and counselling services for specific disease. Clinics run by specialized Physician and Nurses. Example: TB C linic Diabetes Clinic STD’s Clinic Nutrition Clinic
Polyclinics It provide a range of health care services. Includes diagnosis without any admission or need of an overnight stay.

Function of MPHW Registration of cases in clinic. Assess and record the height and weight if required. Assess the health status of patient based on guidelines. Provide need based treatment and care as per standing order. Health education to patient and family member.
