2. The code of professional conduct for nurses is critical for building professionalism and accountability . Ethical consideration are vital in any area dealing with human being because they represent value , right and relationship. Nurse is obliged to provide services even if it is in conflict with her /his personal belief and values . INTRODUCTION

The term e thics which is sometimes translated as custom ’ or ‘ usage ’ is derived from the Greek word ‘ ethicos ’ which is related to the root ‘e thos ’ a root which meant 'custom ' as well as ' character '. Ethics was understood as being concerned with the formation and perfection of human character. In its original sense, the ' ethics' of a group was determined by its character and its customs. The ' ethics ' of a group forms an 'ethos‘. MEANING

4. .Eventually, the term ' ethics ' came to mean the 'science ' dealing with the ideal of human relatedness. Webster defines the word ' ethics ' as both ' the science of moral values and duties' and as ' the study of the ideal human character , actions, and ends' . CONTD……

6. To inform both nurse and society of the minimum standard for professional conduct The code of ethics helps to protect the right of individual ,families and community and also the right of the nurse PURPOSES

7. Acknowledge the rightful places of individual in health care delivery system. Contributes towards empowerment of individual to become responsible for their health and well being . Contributes the quality care. Identifies obligation in practices ,research and relationship . Inform the individual ,families ,community and other professional about expectation of a nurse . CODE OF ETHICS- code of ethics in its formal sense is an attempt by an organization to codify the values of the group -a statement of overarching principle telling members what is right and what is wrong as a guide to all decision making within the organization. Codes of ethics set out general principles, often social or moral, that guide rather than dictate behavior. DIFFERNCE BETWEEN CODE OF ETHICS,CODE OF CONDUCT ,CODE OF PRACTICE

CODE OF CONDUCT-Codes of conduct are specific rules designed to outline specific practices and behaviors that are to be encouraged or prohibited under the ethical code of an organization or individual. Codes of conduct lay out guidelines and procedure to be used to determine whether violations of the code of ethics have occurred and delineate the consequences for such violations.

10. CODE OF PRACTICE-Codes of conduct and codes of ethics are often confused with codes of practice. A code of practice is a document designed to provide a clear example of what is correct, ethical or right behavior in any circumstances. A code of practice generally implies that violation of these codes of practice can result in disbarment or expulsion from the organization

12. According to ANA 1-The nurse in all professional relationship practices with compassion and respect for the inherent dignity ,worth and uniquueness of every individual unrestricted by consideration of social or economic status ,personal attributes or nature of health problem CODE OF ETHICS

The nurse primary commitment is to the client whether an individual, family or group The nurse promotes ,advocates for and strives to protect the health , saftey and right of the client The nurse is responsible ,accountable for individual nursing practice . The nurse owes the same duty to self and others including the responsibility to preserve integrity and saftey ,to continue personal and professional growth.

14. The nurse participates in establishing maintaining and improving health care environment . The participates in advancement of the profession through contribution to practice education ,administration and knowledge development. The nurse collaborates with other health team member and public in promoting community national and international effort to meet health need.

15. The profession of nursing as represented by association and there member is responsible for articulating nursing values.
