COMBINED GAS LAW

OBJECTIVES At the end of the lesson, the students must be able to: Determine the relationship among temperature, pressure, and volume of gasses at constant number of moles. Participate in class activities and class discussion, and Take and pass the test with a mastery level of 75%.

The pressure and volume of a gas are inversely proportional to each other, but are both directly proportional to the temperature of the gas.   The formula of Combined Gas law   V1P1T2=V2P2T1 P1V1 = P2V2 T1 T2

Sample Problem: The oxygen tank manufacturer used to produce 5.0 L oxygen tanks at 2000 psi and 25˚C. Statistics suggests that the 3.0 L oxygen tank at 1500 psi more marketable. What temperature requirement is needed to produce a 3 L oxygen tank at 1500 psi? Given: V1= 5.0 L V2= 3.0 L T1= 25˚C + 273=298 K T2=? P1= 2000 psi P2= 1500 psi

P1V1 = P2V2 T2= T1P2V2 T1 T2 P1V1 T2= (298K) (1500 psi) (3.0 L) (2000 psi) (5.0 L) T2= 1,341,000 K 10,000 T2= 134 K

  Helium gas has a volume of 250 mL at 0˚C at 1.0 atm. What will be the final pressure if the volume is reduced to 100 mL at 45˚C?   2.The volume of a gas at 27˚C and 700 mmHg is 600 mL. what is the volume of the gas at -20˚C and 500 mmHg?   ACTIVITY

Direction : Below are vocabulary words that are being jumbled. Read the definition on the left side to identify and rearrange the jumbled letters to form the correct word on the opposite side. I’ll give you five minutes to answer this activity. ACTIVITY: FIX ME ! ERUTAREPMET a gas is the measure of the hotness or coldness of an object. EMULOV a gas is the amount of space occupied by the gases. TNUOMA a gas or its mass could be expressed in moles or grams. ERUSSERP a confined gas is the average effect of the forces of the colliding molecules. ERUTAREPMET a gas is the measure of the hotness or coldness of an object.

QUIZ

Which of the following is constant when using the Combined Gas Law?   Amount Pressure Temperature Volume

2. Who is this person stated that the relationship between the volume and pressure of gases at constant temperature?   Amedeo Avogadro Jacques Charles Robert Boyle Joseph Louis Gay- Lussac

3. The person who is credited with the determination of the temperature-pressure relationship in gases at constant of volume?   Amedeo Avogadro Joseph Louis Gay- Lussac Jacques Charles Robert Boyle

4. The pressure and the volume of a gas are __________ proportional to each other, but are both directly proportional to the temperature of the gas?   Directly Inversely Vertically Horizontally

5. What is the formula that we use in Combined Gas Law?   P1V1= P2V2 P1T1= P2T2 V1/T1= V2/T2 V1P1T2=V2P2T1

Give an example of Combined Gas Law application in real life and explain you answer Assignment
