COMMON BLOOD INVESTIGATIONS

COMPLETE BLOOD COUNT A routine complete blood count (CBC) test checks for levels of different components of every major cell in the blood. It includes Red blood cells, White Blood cells, blood cell count, hemoglobin, and hematocrit, Blood grouping and typing. Abnormal level of these components may indicate deficiencies.

NORMAL RANGE

SERUM ELECTROLYTES Sodium, calcium, potassium, chloride, phosphate, and magnesium are electrolytes. The individual gets them from the foods he eats and the fluids he drinks. The levels in the body can become too low or too high. Abnormal results may indicate kidney disease, diabetes, hormone imbalances.

Normal Range

LIVER FUNCTION TESTS LFT is test check the levels of certain enzymes and proteins in the blood. Levels that are higher or lower than normal indicate liver problems.

Normal Range

LIPID PROFILE Cholesterol is a form of fat we need. It helps to make the outer membrane of our bodies cells stable. High cholesterol levels are more likely to get heart disease. LDL –Low Density Lipoprotein or bad cholesterol can stick to blood vessels and narrow arteries in the heart can then develop sudden blood clots, causing heart attacks.

Normal Ranges

Renal Function Test Healthy kidneys remove wastes and excess fluid from the blood. Blood and urine tests show how well the kidneys are doing its job and waste is removed.

Normal Ranges

Serum Glucose Testing Blood glucose testing is also known as blood glucose monitoring, is one of the main tools involved in controlling diabetes. This test can also be carried out at home setting using Glucometer.

FASTING BLOOD SUGAR (FBS) Purpose: To screen and diagnose pre-diabetes and diabetes To detect hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia. To monitor blood glucose level on empty stomach. To determine whether treatment is effective or not.

Normal Range

Post Prandial Blood Sugar The word post prandial means after the meal. PBBS refers to level of plasma glucose in the blood after a meal. This test is done after an hour or two of having a meal. This point blood sugar level reaches peak.

Normal Range

HbA1C blood sugar tests It measures the percentage of glucose bound hemoglobin in a persons blood. According to NIH – National Institute of Health this test gives a blood glucose level over the past 2-3 months.
