SOCIAL MEDIA & EDUCATION
Definition of Social Media- Social media are defined as “a group
of Internet-based applications that build on the ideological and
technological foundations of Web 2.0, and that allow the creation
and exchange of user-generated content” (Kaplan and Haenlein
2010, p. 61).

Definition of Education- Education is characterized as a learning
cycle for the person to achieve information and comprehension
of the higher explicit items and explicit. The information
acquired officially coming about an individual has an example of
thought and conduct as per the training they have acquired.

Introduction to e-learning

E-learning, also referred to as
online learning or electronic
learning, is the acquisition of
knowledge which takes place
through electronic
technologies and media. In
simple language, e-learning is
defined as “ learning that is
enabled electronically ”.Learning through Internet,
digital libraries, e-books,
journals, etc.

Influence of Social Media

Social media is changing more than the way we communicate. As
quickly as social media has insinuated itself into politics, the
workplace, home life and elsewhere, it continues to evolve at
lightning speed, making it tricky to predict which way it will morph
next. It’s hard to recall now, but SixDegrees.com, Friendster and
Makeoutclub.com were each once the next big thing, while one
survivor has continued to grow in astonishing ways.
In 2006, Facebook had 7.3 million registered users and reportedly
turned down a $750 million buyout offer. In the first quarter of 2019,
the company could claim 2.38 billion active users, with a market
capitalization hovering around half a trillion dollars.

Social Media

•In today’s world of connected
learning, the impact of social
media on education is becoming a
driving factor.  The world is
getting smaller, and through the
use of technology such as social
media, the way we deliver
instruction is changing. Social
media and education can
complement one another if
utilized effectively. The technology
referred to here really transpires
just social media technologies
such as Facebook, Twitter, and
Snapchat. The technologies that
allow these platforms to function
are also one of the driving forces
behind the impact of this
technology on education. There
are positive and adverse effects
of social networking to students to
students.

Students now have the ability to reach out to industry
experts across disciplines, and this can help the students
locate more authoritative sources of information. This is a
tricky endeavor, and students must be taught how to
evaluate the source of data even when it may come from a
supposed expert.
These are just a few of the many impacts social media and
technology have had on education and society as a whole.
Technology is moving at an ever-increasing pace, so no list
will ever be entirely complete. While the advances in
educational technology have had a  positive impact on
education, social media can not be grouped into that same
level advantages to educators.
