3. INTRODUCTION It is an essential and indispensable equipment of the Community Health Nurse which he/she has to carry along when he/she goes out home visiting. It contains basic medications and articles which are necessary for giving care in the community.

4. community Bag Technique DEFINITION???? A tool making use of public health bag through which the nurse, during his/her home visit, can perform nursing procedures with ease and neatness, saving time and effort with the end in view of rendering effective nursing care.

5. OBJECTIVES To make community visit effective. To carry out nursing care at home. To prevent diseases among members. To treat minor illness. To promote “health for all.”

7. COMMUNITY BAG The Community Bag is otherwise known as Public Health Bag which is made up of material like linen, plastic, fiber. It is an essential tool of Community health nurse during his/her home visit.

10. Sterile Compartment Sterile compartment has three sub divisions. One Bigger cabin Two smaller cabins

11. Sterile Compartment The bigger cabin can use for to keep sterile instruments, dressing pack…etc… smaller cabins can be use for keeping thermometer, family planning devices, medicine, solutions…etc

14. Side pockets Every community bag has two side pockets . It can be use for to keep news papers, paper bag, extra carry bag, plastic sheets…etc

15. Front pocket In front pocket, pen, pencil, diary, plastic apron…etc can keep.

16. CONTENT OF COMMUNITY BAG Paper lining Extra paper for making waste bag Plastic Apron Hand towel Soap in a soap dish Thermometers (oral and rectal) 2 pairs of scissors (surgical and bandage) 2 pairs of artery forceps (curved and straight) Disposable syringes with needles.

18. CONTENT OF COMMUNITY BAG Test tube holders Solutions of: Betadine solution Spirit Savlone solution Hydrogen peroxide Acetic acid Benedict’s solution *Sphygmomanometer and stethoscope are carried separately. Medicine: Essential medicine to treat minor illness.

19. PRINCIPLES OF COMMUNITY BAG TECHNIQUE It should be a need based health visit. Family information is made available before hand for appropriate action. Make sure of creating scientific base health awareness among family members at home. Should be Kind and Courteous at care . Bag technique should save time and effort on the part of the nurse in the performance of nursing procedures. Bag technique should show the effectiveness of total care given to an individual or family. PTO

20. PRINCIPLES OF COMMUNITY BAG TECHNIQUE Bag technique can be performed in a variety of ways depending upon agency policies, actual home situation, etc., as long as principles of avoiding transfer of infection is carried out. The bag should be kept in clean area without danger of being contaminated by the children or domestic animals Clean and boil the articles after using and replace it safely. Avoid unnecessary exposure while doing procedure. Secure the bag by often cleaning and should be covered properly when it is not in use.

21. TECHNIQUES OF USING COMMUNITYBAG Upon arrival at the patient’s home, greet the family members, maintain rapport and gain their confidence. Spread the plastic sheet on a neat and clean place and keep the bag on it (News paper can use). Ask for a mug of water or a glass of water if tap water is not available.   Open the bag and take out the hand washing articles (towel and soap dish with soap and nail brush).  Wash hands using soap and water, wipe with towel to dry.   Take out the apron from the bag and wear it, if necessary. Open the bag, take out essential items and close the bag . PTO

22. TECHNIQUES OF USING COMMUNITYBAG Complete the procedure , place the used or dirty articles separately and disinfect these articles with proper method. A separate bag can be used to carry these instruments(Dirty/ Disinfected ). Wash your hands at end of the procedure . Return the articles to the bag. PTO

23. TECHNIQUES OF USING COMMUNITYBAG Record your service . Close the bag immediately. Fold used paper with used side inside. Write a report immediately. Inform your next visit . Dispose waste bag or burn it.

24. IMPORTANT POINTS TO CONSIDER WHILE USING COMMUNITY BAG The bag should contain all the necessary articles, supplies and equipments that will be used to answer even emergency needs. The bag and its contents should be cleaned very often, the supplies replaced and ready for use anytime. The bag and its contents should be well protected from contact with any article in the patient’s home. PTO

25. IMPORTANT POINTS TO CONSIDER WHILE USING COMMUNITY BAG Consider the bag and its contents clean and sterile , while articles that belong to the patients as dirty and contaminated. The arrangement of the contents of the bag should be the one most convenient to the user , to facilitate efficiency and avoid confusion
