patientcaresuchaseyeirrigation,
applicationofointments,medications.

4. OBJECTIVES
•Theoverallobjectiveof usingcommunity
healthbag in a systematicmethodis“tobe
abletocarryoutnursingproceduresin the
familywithimprovisedequipmentsarticles
availableat home, maintainingscientific
and nursingprincipleswhichcan alsobe
practicedbythefamilyin herabsence”.

5. PURPOSE:
•To preventspread of infectionfromonepatient
toanotherand fromoneplace toanotherby
keepingbag and itscontentsas cleanas
possible.
•To demonstratetheprinciplesof cleanlinessto
patientsand familymembersbyusingthebag
in orderlyway.
•To carryoutselectedprocedure,
demonstrations, teachingand followup
servicesforpatientsand familymembers

6. PRINCIPLES:
•The use of the bag technique should minimize
if not totally prevent the spread of infection
from individuals to families, hence, to the
community.
•Bag technique should save time and efforton
the part of the nurse in the performance of
nursing procedures.
•Bag technique should not overshadow concern
for the patient rather should show the
effectiveness of total caregiven to an
individual or family.

7. INDICATIONS:

nurse to-
•Provideantenatal, intranataland postnatal
caretomotherand child.
•Performcertaindiagnosticproceduressuch
as Hb testing, urinetestingforearly
detectionof highriskcases and provide
timelytreatment.

membersorcommunitysuchas preparing
oral dehydrationsolution(ORS),baby
bath,applicationof benzylbenzoatein
cases of scabies.
•Provideemergencyand firstaidservices
(+) in case of accidentsand minor
ailments.

communicablediseasessuchas
chickenpox.

Wash hands
Remove hand washing material
Spread newspaper
Select area of work.

After procedure, wash hands under tap
water.
Close the bag.
Remove needed equipment’s.
Remove the apron from the bag and put
it on.

Wait for 5 minutes.
Use cotton swab moistened
with spirit and wipe outside of
used bottles

•Record all relevant findings about the
client and members of the family.
•Take note of environmental factors which
affect the clients/family health.
•Include quality of nurse-patient
relationship.
•Assess effectiveness of nursing care
provided.

time, observe someof thefollowing
instructions.
•Cleanthebag daily,protectfromexcessive
heatorrain toreserve itin a goodcondition.
•Replacethedrugs,dressingand linendailyin
thebag.
•Emptyallthecontents,washthebag withsoap
and wateronce in a weekormore frequently
dependingonhowmuchithas beenusedand
dryitthesun.

•Repalcecottonorplasticbags
containingswabsand dressingwith
sterileone.
•Checkgloves,catheters,thermometer
and glassarticles,replaceifspoiltor

•Repackthebag in anorderlyway;keep
articlesin theirusual places tomake
themeasilytraceble.
