DEFINITION COMMUNITY – Origin from the latin word ‘COMMUNIS A community is a social group determined by geographical boundaries,& common values &interests .It’s member knows & interect with each other. It function within a particular structure & exhibits & creats values certain norms & institutions. Three such common factor have been highlighted in the literature Community as a collection of people Community as a place Community as a social system COMMUNITY HEALTH NURSING- According to ANA-Community Health Nursing is a synthesis of nursing practice& public health practice applied in promoting &preserving the health of populations. Nature of practice is general & comprehensive. Not limited to a particular age & diagnostic group. It is continuous not episodic. Dominent responsibility is to the population as a whole.Therefore nursing directed to individuals ,families &groups for the health of the total population. Health promotion,health maintanence & healtheducation,coordination.continuty of care are utilised in a wholistic approach to the management of the health care of individuals,families,group &community.
