Usage We use the comparative and the superlative forms in many situations in our daily lives. To compare between two things or people, we use the comparative form. If we compare one thing to a group, we use the superlative form.

One-syllable Adjectives tall - short Sarah Ahmed Rana Sarah is tall. Ahmed is tall er than Sarah . Rana is the tall est .

One-syllable Adjectives Fast - slow A bicycle is fast . A motorcycle is fast er than a bicycle. A car is the fast est . To most one-syllable adjectives, we add ‘ er ’ and ‘ est ’.

One-syllable Adjectives ending in ‘ e ’ wide - nice This car is nice. This car is nice r than the blue one. This on is the nice st . Add an ‘ r ’ or ‘ st ’ to the adjective that end in ‘ e ’

One-syllable Adjectives ( CVC ) (consonant-vowel-consonant) big – hot A hippo is big. An elephant is big ger than a hippo . A blue whale is the big gest . Double the last consonant and then add ‘ er ’ or ‘ est ’.

Two-syllable Adjectives ending in ( y ) Happy - Funny Sara is happy. Rasha is happ ier than Sara. Amina is the happ iest girl. Replace the ‘ y ’ with an ‘ i ’ and then add ‘ er ’ or ‘ est ’ Sarah Rasha Amina

Two or more syllable adjectives Beautiful - Expensive My apartment is expensive . My brother’s apartment is more expensive than mine. My sister’s apartment is the most expensive.

best Better Good worst Worse Bad Least Less Little Most More Many/much Farthest / furthest Farther/ further Far Irregular adjectives

Irregular adjectives Sam is good at English. Dan is better than Sam at English. Mark is the best student at English.
