Amazon Q Key Components Retriever A retriever pulls data from an index in real-time during a conversation. Large Language Model (LLM) A large language model (LLM) is a language-based, machine learning model that's tuned to a large number (billions) of parameters or and trained on a large corpus of documents. Data source connector A data source connector is a mechanism for integrating and synchronizing data from multiple repositories into one container. Amazon Q supports multiple connectors to build your generative AI solution with minimal configuring. Index An index is a corpus of documents. An index has fields where you can map your document attributes to enhance your end user's chat experience. Data source A data source is a document repository. Amazon Q provides an index to which you can sync a data source and use it for your chat application. The index can crawl and synchronize documents from the data source to an Amazon Q index at regular intervals.

Amazon Q workflow Amazon Q does the following In response to an end-user query during a web experience chat: Uses the retriever chosen by the admin to select and retrieve documents that are relevant to the query, following authorization and access control. Generates a response to the user query using either a combination of retrieved enterprise data and model knowledge, or only enterprise data, depending on admin configuration. Returns the generated response to the end user. Amazon Q assigns a unique message ID to each answer for tracking purposes.
