Computer by: Mohammad Muzzammil A machine of metal and wire, A device that we all admire, The computer sits upon our desk, An endless world, at our request.
With a click of the mouse, we can explore, A vast universe, never seen before, From information to entertainment, The computer provides an endless engagement.
We can write a letter, create a design, And with a printer, have it refined, We can share our work with the world, With just a few clicks, our message unfurled .
The computer allows us to connect, T o people and places, we cannot reject, Through video and voice, we can communicate, With anyone, anytime, never too late.
But with all its glory and might, The computer can also be a blight , If we let it control our every thought, And forget the world, that we have wrought .
So let us use this tool with care, To create and connect, but also be aware, That life is not just a digital screen, But a beautiful world, waiting to be seen.
Vocabulary vast- very great in size, amount A vast universe, never seen before unfurled- spread With just a few clicks, our message unfurled
blight- a thing that spoils or damages something The computer can also be a blight wrought- past participle of work And forget the world, that we have wrought
Who is the author of the poem? Mohammad Muzzammil
How did the author describe the computer? A machine of metal and wire A device that we all admire The computer sits upon our desk
What are uses of computer that mentioned in the poem?
We can write a letter, create a design, And with a printer, have it refined, We can share our work with the world, With just a few clicks, our message unfurled.
The computer allows us to connect, T o people and places, we cannot reject, Through video and voice, we can communicate, With anyone, anytime, never too late.
The author mentioned that computers can be a blight. Do you agree with this? Why and why not? Explain.

Computer is an electronic machine that processes and stores information. It takes in raw information using input devices, stores in the memory until it is ready to be processed in the processing unit and sends out results using output devices.
THE TYPES OF COMPUTERS
THE TYPES OF COMPUTERS 1. Supercomputer - the fastest and most powerful computer in terms of performance and data processing. It uses its power to run one program at a time. Used in: • Research and exploration • Weather forecasting • Nuclear weapon testing
2. Mainframe computer - is designed to run multiple programs concurrently. Used in: • Banks • Educational Institution • Insurance companies
3. Minicomputer- also known as “Midrange” computer -is smaller than Supercomputer or Mainframe computer but bigger and more powerful than the microcomputer. Used in: • Data Management device • Communications Portal • Process Control
4. Microcomputer is the most widely used computer – desktop, laptops, tablets, and smartphones.
ELEMENTS OF COMPUTER
The parts of the computer are divided into 3 elements namely: A. Hardware B. Software C. Peopleware
A. Hardware The term hardware refers to parts of a computer system that are tangible.
A. Hardware Input Devices Output Devices Process Devices Storage Devices
A. Hardware Input Devices -accepts data and instructions from the user or from another computer system.
A. Hardware Input Devices It has many keys. These keys allow you to type letters, special characters, symbol and numbers. 1. Keyboard
A. Hardware Input Devices used to point and select objects on the computer monitor. 2. Mouse
A. Hardware Input Devices it function like a mouse and is used in gaming. 3. Joystick
A. Hardware Input Devices Can feed an actual image through a computer. 4. Digital Camera
A. Hardware Input Devices use to capture a source document and converts printed data or images into an electronic data format that a computer can store 5. Scanner
A. Hardware Input Devices used to input sound, adding sound to a multimedia presentation or for mixing music 6. Microphone
A. Hardware Output Devices -displays results after the computer has processed the input data that has been entered.
A. Hardware Output Devices It looks like a television. It displays video and graphical information . 1. Monitor
A. Hardware Output Devices Creates a hardcopy of the data from the computer. 2. Printer
A. Hardware Output Devices 3. Speaker an output hardware device that produces sound.
A. Hardware Output Devices lets the user listen privately to audio by plugging it into the computer. 4. Headset
A. Hardware Output Devices 5. Projector projects an image onto a large surface, such as a white screen or wall
A. Hardware Process Devices is the computer’s circuitry in the system unit. It plays an important role in processing operations. It is used to process data, using instructions from the program.
A. Hardware Process Devices – is the main circuit board of a computer. It contains all the circuits and components that run the computer. 1. Motherboard / Mainboard / System Board
A. Hardware Process Devices - is the “brain” or “heart” of a computer system. performs all of the instructions and calculations that are needed and manages the flow of information through a computer. 2. CPU (Central Processing Unit)
A. Hardware Process Devices 3. RAM – (Random Access Memory) RAM is volatile, meaning it holds data only when the power is on. When the power is off, RAM's contents are lost.
A. Hardware Process Devices 4. Read-Only Memory – Is the permanent storage of instructions needed when you switch on your computer.
A. Hardware Process Devices 5. Video Card/GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) - also called a display card, graphics card, display adapter, or graphics adapter is an expansion card which generates a feed of output images to a display device (such as a computer monitor).
Video card
6. SYSTEM UNIT also known as a "tower" or "chassis," is the main part of a desktop computer. It encloses the motherboard, CPU, RAM, video card, and other internal components.
A. Hardware Storage Devices stores data and programs. These hold data, information, and programs permanently. .
Magnetic Storage Hard Disk Drive (HDD) - also known as hard drive, is a magnetic storage device that is installed inside the computer. The hard drive is used as permanent storage for data
Magnetic Storage Floppy Disk - is a removable data medium that housed in a rigid plastic cartridge
Optical Storage BD (Blu-ray Disc) – was designed to supersede the DVD format, and is capable of storing several hours of video in high definition.
Optical Storage CD (Compact Disc) - is a nonmagnetic, polished metal disk used to store digital information. The disc is read by the CD- ROM.
Optical Storage DVD (Digital Versatile Disc) - with a 4.7 gigabyte storage capacity on a single-sided, one-layered disk, which is enough for a 133-minute movie
Flash Memory Solid State Drive – is a storage medium that uses non- volatile memory.
Flash Memory Memory Card –used with digital cameras, handheld and tablet/mobile computers and other electronics
Flash Memory USB flash drive - is a plug-and-play portable storage device that uses flash memory and is lightweight enough to attach to a key chain.
B. Software Application Program Operating System
B. Software Application Program Performs a specific task. Games
B. Software Operating System Is the basic software required which manages the hardware.
C. Peopleware The computer needs a person or a user in order for it to work.
System Analysts - are people who design the operation and processing of the system System Programmers – are people who write codes and programs to implement the working of the system. System Operators – are people who operate the system and use it for different purposes. Also called the end users like students, teachers, and other professionals.
