What is Conditional Formatting? With Excel's conditional formatting options you can apply formatting to cells based on the value of it. You can highlight and visualize the data using formatting such as colors , icons , and data bars .

Create Conditional Formatting Rule

To create a conditional formatting rule: Select the desired cells to format. In the Home tab, click the Conditional Formatting command. A drop-down menu will appear. 1 2

To create a conditional formatting rule: (Cont.) Select Highlight Cells Rules Select the rule ( Greater Than ). 3 4

To create a conditional formatting rule: (Cont.) From the dialog box, enter a value in the space provided. Select the formatting style . 5 6 Note: You can enter a cell reference instead of a number.

Other Highlight rules can also be applied with the same steps: Less than rule : highlights the cells that have value that is less than the selected value. Between rule : highlights the cells with value which occurs between the selected values as shown in figure(1). figure(1).

Conditional Formatting Presets

Conditional formatting presets : Presets allow you to apply formatting to the needed data quickly. 1.Data bars 2.Color scales 3.Icon sets 1 2 3

To apply a conditional formatting preset : Select the desired cells to format. In the Home tab, click the Conditional Formatting command. A drop-down menu will appear. 2 1

To apply a conditional formatting preset : Select Data bars , then select the desired preset. You will see how presets rule has been applied to your selected data. 3

Remove and Manage Rules

Removing and Managing rules: Excel allows you to remove and manage all rules that have been added to the selected set of data. To Remove rules: 1 . Select the cells that have conditional formatting. 2 . In the Home tab, click the Conditional Formatting command. 2 1
