CONFLICT
MANAGEMENT
What is conflict?
❑Conflict can be defined as an
expressed struggle between at
least two interdependent parties,
who perceive that incompatible
goals, or interference from others
are preventing them from
achieving their goals.
❑Where there are people there is
conflict. We each have our
values, needs, & habits so its
easy to misunderstand or irritate
one another. If left unchecked it
can lead to bad decisions,
harassment or bullying and team
break downs.
❑Conflict can manifest at various
levels from individual to global
eg. World war, roommate
disputes.

✓Seek help through prayer & Patience (Al-Baqarah

✓Mashwara: (مهنيب ىروش مهرمأوAsh-shura 38),
Rights of a Muslim upon a Muslim(Bukhari

✓Ask the people of knowledge if you do not know.
(An-Nahl43). (مصخلا اؤبنsurah sad 21)

Intergroup conflict management strategies
Raise the issue early
keeping quiet only lets resentment fester. Equally, speaking with other people first
can fuel rumor & misunderstanding.
Manage your emotions
A cool head thinks the best. Nabi SAW advised the man seeking advice not to get
angry(Bukhari 6116). He also said when one of you becomes angry he should perform
ablution(Abu Dawud 4784). Seek refuge in Allah from shaitan. Change your posture.
Keeping quiet.
Aal-e imran:134 سانلا نع نيفاعلاو ظيغلا نيمظكلاو يف نوقفني نيذلأءآرسلاءآرضلاو
❖Praiseworthy anger is allowed if the benefits outweigh harms egsolidarity, instilling
discipline in a child.
Show Empathy.
Do not mistake respect for weakness.
