“Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, in v ol v e me and I learn.” (Benjamin Franklin)

An American educator, Edgar Dale further claims that in a duration of 2 weeks time, we remember only: 10% of what we read 20% of what we hear 30% of what we see 50% of what we hear and see 70% of what we say and write and 90% of what we actually participate in . (activity-based learning, pedagogical approach The more the involvement, the more we learn and remember in the long run.

Screen Time and its effects Screen time is the time spent using devices with display screens, such as smart phones, computers, TV and video game consoles. Any time your attention is placed on such devices you're clocking up screen time. 1. Screen time can be bad for your physical health 2. Your sleep is affected 3. It weakens communication skills 4. Screen time can cause inattention in later life 5. Screen time can cause poor memory 6. Screen time is linked to poor self esteem and depression 7. Too much screen time can cause computer vision syndrome 8. Procrastination and lack of productivity 9. Screen time can equal anti-social behaviour 10. Screen time can change to shape of your brains cortex

For context, if we assume that the average person spends roughly 7 to 8 hours per day sleeping, the typical internet user now spends more than 40 percent of their waking life online. The amount of time we spend online continues to climb too, with the daily average increasing by 4 minutes per day (+1.0 percent) over the past year. That may not sound like a big increase, but added up across all of the world’s internet users, those 4 extra minutes per day should equate to more than 5 billion additional days of internet use in 2022. In total, the latest numbers suggest that the world should spend more than 12½ trillion hours online in 2022 alone.

Innovation is a widely used and often praised term in the world of business, technology, and society in general. However, despite its omnipresence, innovation can be a complex and multifaceted concept. In this article, we will explore the meaning of innovation, its various aspects, and its importance in various areas of modern life. What is innovation? Innovation can be defined in several ways, but at its core, it refers to the introduction of something new, whether it's a product, process, service, or idea, that creates value and has the potential to transform or enhance a specific area. Innovation is not limited to new technological inventions; it can be found in various forms and sectors, such as: 1. Technological innovation 🌐: This is the type of innovation most commonly associated with advances in technology. It involves creating new products or enhancements to existing products, like smartphones 📱, autonomous cars 🚗, or groundbreaking software 💻. Technological innovation often redefines the way we live and work. 2. Process innovation 🔄: Process innovation involves improvements in how things are done. It can result in greater efficiency, cost reduction, and reduced waste. Business process reengineering is an example of this, aiming to optimize the way companies operate. 3. Product or service innovation 📦: This type of innovation is focused on creating new products or services that meet consumer needs. A classic example is Apple 🍏, which consistently releases innovative products like the iPhone, revolutionizing the way people communicate and work. 4. Social innovation 🤝: Social innovation addresses social issues such as poverty, inequality, and access to education and healthcare. Social innovation projects seek creative solutions to complex problems, often using sustainable business models. 5. Open innovation 🌍: Open innovation involves collaboration with other organizations, individuals, or communities to promote value creation. It recognizes that good ideas can come from both external and internal sources, and companies can benefit from sharing knowledge and resources. The importance of innovation Innovation plays a vital role in various areas and offers significant benefits: 1. Competitiveness 💪: The ability to innovate is essential for businesses to stay competitive. Those who can't keep up with technological changes and market demands risk falling behind. 2. Economic growth 📈: Innovation drives economic growth by creating new business opportunities and employment. Innovative sectors often contribute to increased GDP and social well-being. 3. Problem solving 🌍: Innovation can address complex challenges like climate change 🌱, public health 🏥, and poverty. Innovative ideas are crucial for finding solutions to these global issues. 4. Quality of life improvement 🌟: Innovations in areas such as medicine 💉, clean energy ☀️, and transportation 🚆 can enhance people's quality of life by providing access to advanced medical treatments, cleaner energy sources, and efficient transportation systems. 5. Sustainability 🌿: Sustainable innovation aims to create solutions that meet present needs without compromising future generations. It plays a crucial role in preserving the environment and managing limited resources. Innovation is a multifaceted concept that plays a central role in contemporary society. It goes far beyond technology and encompasses economic, social, and environmental aspects. The ability to innovate is essential for businesses, governments, and individuals looking to thrive in a constantly changing world. Therefore, understanding what innovation is and how to promote it becomes essential in facing the challenges of the 21st century and creating a more promising future. 🌠

Respect!

Man of integrity, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam not only insulated his family from trappings of power but never used his personal capacity as the President of India for the personal benefit or any kind of undue favour to his kins . For Kalam , known for the high integrity he displayed during his tenure as president, upholding high standards in public life was as important as familial bonds. So much so that he paid from his personal account the entire expenses that incurred while his family traveled from hometown to New Delhi and stayed at Rashtrapati Bhavan . "The first time our family visited Delhi was when ' thatha ' (grandfather) was sworn in as President. Around 50 members were part of the entourage. The entire travel expense was borne by him in a personal capacity," Kalam's grandnephew K Ajmal told TOI. Ajmal recalled in 2005, 52 members of the family went on a sightseeing tour of New Delhi, perhaps the only occasion when they enjoyed Rashtrapati Bhavan's hospitality. "We set out in two buses to Madurai from Rameswaram . From Madurai, we took the Nizamuddin Express. On reaching, we were taken in two buses to Rashtrapati Bhavan and my grandfather was there to receive us," said Ajmal . "Each family was provided with a room and for all 10 days, programmes were charted out. On almost all days, we used to have food with the President," said Ajmal . "Several varieties of food were served to us and it was a great family get-together," he said. But, this is not the end of the story. Kalam's Secretary P. Madhavan Nair said the entire expenses during the stay of Kalam's family at Rashtrapati Bhavan were accounted with minute details, and after the family left, Kalam made the payment of Rs . 3,52,000/- from his personal account. Likewise in 2002, Kalam directed his staff to distribute the entire amount used for organising Ramadan Iftaar program at Rashtrapati to poor and needy. "He said the poor and needy deserve more the Rs.2.5 lakh Rashtrapti Bhavan expends on Ramadan Iftaar ", Nair said. He said Kalam also added Rs.1 lakh from his personal account with the Rs.2.5 lakh Rashtrapati Bhavan money and directed the staff to distribute to the poor and needy. Nair also said Kalam during his tenure as President, went on 175 tours. Of them, only 07 were foreign tours. Rest all were in the country. "Except for Lakshdeep , Kalam visited every state of the country", he said. When he was The President of India, nearly 50 of his close relatives showed an eagerness to tour Delhi and surroundings. He welcomed all those relatives and made them stay at Rastrapathi Bhavan and hosted them warmly, showed all the tourist places. After they had left the Bhavan , he made the payments for the expenditure incurred by the relatives.

Sir, what do you consider as your best achievement in your life, please tell me. Having done so much to the Science and Research department of India, to the Society of Indian citizens with so many noble causes and to the students of Indian nation as a professor, he could have picked up any renowned achievement to answer this question, but what he chose as his achievement is heart touching. He says, I have spent more than 50 years for science and technology and now I am serving this nation as president. But what made me feel so happy and proud was this; During our first Agni missile mission, me and my team of engineers were trying to find out a suitable material with which we can design the missile's nose portion that thrusts thru the air at 15 times of the speed of sound. Any metal at this speed would develop 4000° kelvin heat and this might cause the metal to get chipped, cracked or even melted in some conditions. So, our team worked hard and came up with Carbon-Carbon Composite which is much stronger but yet 10 times lighter than other preferred metal. Besides the missile development, we were thinking to apply this composite material for some other practical uses. We saw kids who have disabled legs due to Polio attack. Those kids wore Calipers that weighed more than 4KG and they clearly struggled a lot to walk with those heavy Calipers on. We built Calipers using Carbon-Carbon Composite and wore it on them. It reduced the weight of the Calipers 10 times lesser than the previous ones. What used to weigh about 4KG, now weighs only between 300-400 Grams! The joy on the kids face and the tears on their mothers face gave the ultimate satisfaction in my life. I find no words to express how good it was to see the joyful reactions from those kids once we bolted the Calipers on them. This for me is the greatest achievement of my life. Above is a rough translation of what he spoke in the Tamil interview. Nothing what he achieved as a scientist, as a president seemed so important to him, but this one surely is a great thought to put his and his team's invention to a better use.

Once during convocation of IIT BHU Dr APJ Abdul Kalam who was then President, refused to sit on a chair that was designated for him -because the chair was larger in size than the other chairs. He was the chief guest noticing his chair is bigger than others than university officials. He refused to sit on it. Here it is … This was one of the several instances where Kalam's actions became synonymous with simplicity and humility that was the hallmark of his public life - both as India's top scientist and most loved President.

Success often takes a winding and unpredictable journey, rather than a straightforward path. Many people think that achievements come from a linear progression, but they are often marked by setbacks, challenges, and unexpected turns. These obstacles are integral components of success, serving as valuable lessons that shape character, enhance resilience, and foster growth💫 Imagine success as a labyrinthine road, where each bend and detour presents an opportunity to learn, adapt, and evolve. Adversity tests one's true mettle, pushing individuals to tap into their creativity, resourcefulness, and determination. While setbacks might temporarily obscure the view of the ultimate goal, they also provide a chance to reassess strategies, refine approaches, and develop the tenacity needed to persevere. The non-linear nature of success nurtures a sense of humility, teaching that achievement is not solely about reaching the destination, but also about the transformative journey taken to get there. Embracing the twists and turns, individuals can harness their experiences to ultimately emerge stronger, wiser, and better equipped to conquer the challenges that lie ahead on the path to success🌟 Success often takes a winding and unpredictable journey, rather than a straightforward path.

NEW, NEW EVERYDAY Innovation is defined as the process of bringing about new ideas, methods, products, services, or solutions that have a significant positive impact and value. It involves transforming creative concepts into tangible outcomes that improve efficiency, and effectiveness, or address unmet needs.

ACTIVITIES

What’s My Name? On name tags or similar labels, write down the name of a famous person, or write down people types (e.g. doctor, athlete, nerd, disabled, wealthy, homeless, etc.). Place these nametags on a team member’s back so that they cannot see what they are, but the rest of the group can. For a set amount of time, the entire group should mingle, and ask and answer questions. They should treat each other according to the stereotypical way based on what kind of person they have been labeled. Each team member can use that treatment, as well as the answers to questions, to figure out what the label is. As each team member figures out who they are, they can exit the game and let the rest continue. Purpose: By confronting stereotypes in both how people treat us and in the questions and answers used, the team can get a better sense of how we mistakenly see people as well as how it feels to be so narrowly defined. This is also a good ice-breaker activity if you have team members that do not know each other yet.

Start-up Have each team member bring one item from their desk to the exercise. Then, tell them that this item is going to be their new product, and that they must come up with a name, logo, slogan, and marketing plan for that object. Give them a set amount of time. This could be done individually, or in small groups if desired. Once the time is up, allow each person to present the item and give a two minute presentation on their “product” as if they were selling it. Discuss, as a group, which products were successfully sold and why. Purpose: For marketing and design teams, this exercise presents the challenge of seeing old things in a new light. When combined with groups working together to sell a common object, you introduce teamwork and crunch-time brainstorming. It promotes creativity and problem solving, too.

Actor Jackie Chan recently turned 67. He remains one of the world's highest-paid stars, who enjoys fame not only in Asia, but also in Hollywood. Forbes estimated that he made $40 million between June 2019 and June 2020 . But did you know that a decade ago, the actor had said that he would donate the entirety of his reported $350 million net worth to charity, and not pass it on to his son, Jaycee ? "If he is capable, he can make his own money. If he is not, then he will just be wasting my money," Channel NewsAsia quoted Jackie as saying in 2011. The actor also expressed regret that he hadn't insisted that his son enroll in the army when he was younger, to 'temper his character'. Jaycee is the only son of Jackie and his wife, Joan Lin, who married in 1982. He is an actor and musician. In 2014, it was reported that Jaycee was arrested for drug possession. On Weibo , Jackie had apologised on behalf of his son. He said that he was 'extremely furious' about the incident. "I hope that young people will see Jaycee as a cautionary tale and stay away from drugs," he wrote, adding, "I failed to teach my son and I should also bear responsibility. Jaycee and I deeply bow in apology to society."

Jackie sits on the political advisory board for the Chinese government. And in 2014, while he was serving as an anti-drug ambassador for the country, Jaycee was arrested and jailed for marijuana possession. Soon after the arrest, Chan wrote a lengthy message on his website, sharing his disappointment toward his son. “When I first heard the news, I was absolutely enraged,” he wrote, as reported by  TMZ . “As a public figure, I feel very ashamed; as his dad, I’m very sad and disappointed. But the person who feels heartbroken the most is his mom.” But keeping in line with his duty as an anti-drug advocate, Jackie suggested Jaycee’s “mistake” serve as a cautionary tale. He also took some of the “responsibility,” noting he didn’t teach Jaycee “well.”  “I would like to take this opportunity and say to Jaycee: you’ve done something wrong and you have to be responsible for the consequences,” the movie star wrote. “I’m your dad and I’ll always be with you. We will face the road ahead of us together.” Despite having a reported net worth of around $400 million, Chan has been adamant that his children must make their own way in the world . He’s also said that his oldest child, Jaycee, has no chance of getting his hands on his  Hollywood -made money. In an interview with  SOH Talks & Ideas , Chan said that he believed his son had 'no discipline' and didn’t 'know how to talk' in conversations. In his 2015 autobiography,  Never Grow Up , Chan discussed the moment that he had booked himself a  first-class plane ticket  and bought an economy seat for his son.

The stuntman reportedly told his son, ‘You have no money now, so you sit here in economy’, but Jaycee was later able to be upgraded into a vacant first-class seat. Discussing the lesson he was attempting to teach his child, he wrote: “You have me as a dad, but other people don’t. They have to fight their own battles. When you get to sit in first class, because of your own hard work, then that’s success .” Elsewhere in the book, Chan says that every flight the pair have flown on since sees Jaycee getting a free upgrade to a luxurious first-class seat. In 2011, he reportedly told NewsAsia that he would prefer to donate his hard-earned dollar to charity than deliver it into the hands of his son . Discussing the decision to withhold his reported $400 million net worth, Chan stated: "If he is capable, he can make his own money. If he is not, then he will just be wasting mine .” Residing somewhat in his father’s shadow, Jaycee has neither made it big as a Hollywood actor nor as a musician. In 2008, he voiced a Young Monkey in  Kung Fu Panda: Secrets of the Furious Five  and in 2009 he starred as Fei Xiaohu in Jingle Ma’s  Mulan . However, in 2014, Jaycee was arrested in China for the possession of marijuana. He was found guilty and spent six months in jail. At the time of his sentencing, Chan said: “I would like to take this opportunity and say to Jaycee: you’ve done something wrong and you have to be responsible for the consequences . “ I’m your dad and I’ll always be with you. We will face the road ahead of us together,” he concluded .
