What are they and what are they used for? are words or phrases used in English to express the relationship between a cause (the motive or reason for something) and its effect (the result or consequence) and are used to explain why something happens or what happens as a result of something

Cause connectors because of / due to Rule: They are followed by a noun, pronoun, or gerund (subject + verb are not used). Example: The game was canceled because of the rain. The flight was delayed due to fog Because Rule: Used with subject + verb. Example: I didn’t go to school because I was sick. Since / AS Rule: it Is used with subject + verb, but it’s usually placed at the beginning to sound more formal. Example: Since it was late, we went home.

Effect connectors therefore / thus / consequently / as a result They are placed at the beginning of the second sentence. They are followed by a comma. They sound more formal than “so.” Example: He forgot the keys. Therefore, he couldn’t get in. She studied hard. As a result, she passed the test so Rule: Join two complete sentences. A comma usually comes before “so.” Example: It was raining, so we stayed inside.
