Main construction diagram
Main parts The two major parts required for construction : 1. Stator That houses the field winding 1. Rotor Rotating part that rotates in magnetic field
Other parts Eye bolt Yoke Poles (pole core and pole shoes) Field winding Armature core Armature winding Commutator Brushes End covers Bearings Shaft Terminal box I nterpoles
Y ok e □ Its main function is to form a protective covering over the inner sophisticated parts of th e m oto r a n d carr i e s the flux p r o du c e d b y the poles. □ Made up of cast iron or steel.
P o l e s The magnetic poles are structures fitted onto the inner wall of the yoke with screws. The construction of magnetic poles basically comprises of t w o pa r t s na m el y , the core and the p o le stacked together hydra u l i c p re ss ure and po l e shoe under then attached to the yoke.
Field winding Made with field coils (copper wire) wound over the slots of the pole shoes The f i e l d w i nd i ngs b a si ca ll y f o r m a n t h a t electromagnet, produces field flux
Armature □ The armature core are provided with slots to which the armature windings made with several turns of copper w i r e d i st r i bu t e d uniformly over the entire periphery of the core.
C o mm u t a t o r It is a cylindrical structure made up of copper segments stacked together, but insulated from each other by mica. Collects the current from the armature conductors a lt e r n a ti n g c u rr e n t in t h e a r m a t u re i n to un i d ir ec ti on a l □ C onv e rts induced circuit current.
B r u s h e s Made with carbon or graphite structures, making sliding contact over the rotating commutator. Collects the current from commutator and make it available to the stationary ckt.
