3. Transformer core It is made of highly permeable iron. It is made of silicon steel lamination insulated with rectangular steel strip. They are classified as Core type transformer: for single phase core is a two legged containing low voltage and high voltage winding on both legs. Shell type transformer: for single phase is three legged, containing low and high voltage winding on central leg.
