Contusions & abrasions By C ameron Walker

Contusions

Contusions A region of injured tissue or skin in which blood capillaries have been ruptured, In English, a bruise. Contusions occur when tissue is traumatized allowing blood to flow into the surrounding tissues in the body. Contusions can involve blood cells at the level of skin, tissue, muscle, or bone.

Causes Some of the causes to make yourself have a contusion are Usually occur in contact sports or when an object is moving at a fast pace. Falling in a common cause Anytime you may crush the area against the bone.

Symptoms Pain Bruising and swelling Sometimes a decrease an ability to move Flexing the muscle damaged may be painful.

Warnings It is important not to play after the injury or to apply aggressive treatment. Doing this can make you develop myositis ossificans. Myositis Ossificans is when the blood calcifies inside of your muscle, which causes a bone growth to form, which can hinder your movement for an extended period of time.

Treatment First you should rest the area and apply cold treatments Also, you can elevate the area and put pressure to reduce swelling Only after all bleeding and swelling has stopped can you use treatments that may apply heat.

Recovery To recover, you can use sport massages and electrotherapy . If you feel a decrease in motion, you should also do stretching exercises.

Abrasions

Abrasions an area on the skin, or some other surface of the body, that has been damaged by scraping or rubbing …Otherwise known as a scratch You should know there are two types of abrasions. Shallow Deep

Shallow abrasions Shallow abrasions are not usually serious and don’t bleed much. They may ooze pinkish fluid but nothing serious. You can expect pain when the area comes into contact with something, and slight swelling.

Deep Abrasions The area of the deep abrasion will be numb and the swelling of the area will be much larger than the shallow abrasions The muscle beneath may be weaker so that it is harder to control the muscle. Lastly, the bleeding itself has worsened.

Causes of abrasions Abrasion is just damage to the skin, so it could happen anywhere friction is applied. Other than that, wounds that are caused by sharp, rough, pointy, etc. objects can also lead to the making of an abrasion.

Warnings You should always treat the wound as quickly as possible. The reason for this is that viruses, bacteria, etc. can infect your body through the wound. Also, be sure to clean the wound thoroughly so that is cant get infected beneath the bandage.

Treatment Make sure the wound is clean. If it is bleeding severely, stop the bleeding using pressure. After this, apply antiseptic to clean the would of bacteria Then put a bandage over the area, changing it when needed

Recovery After an abrasion, the layers of damaged skin will heal from the deeper layers to the surface layers and from the outer edges to the center. As healing begins, the area of the abrasion may look pink and raw, but after a while the wound will form new skin that is pink and smooth. All you need to do is change bandages regularly
