WHAT IS QUACKERY?
QUACKERY , a form of a health FRAUD, is any advertisement , promotion , or sale of products and services that have NOT BEEN SCIENTIFICALLY PROVEN SAFE and EFFECTIVE (Meeks, et al, 2011).
QUACK individual that has little or no professional qualifications to practice medicine pretentiously uses meaningless medical jargon and relies on scare tactics , paranoid accusations , and quick fixes
It is a big business . It multiplies and spreads fast . It thrives on individuals who are diagnosed with illnesses that are known to have no cure. THREE MAJOR CHARACTERISTICS OF HEALTH QUACKERY
THREE FORMS OF QUACKERY
1. MEDICAL QUACKERY
1. MEDICAL QUACKERY includes cures , treatments , and remedies of various health conditions that are DRUGLESS or BLOODLESS in nature
2. NUTRITION QUACKERY
2. NUTRITION QUACKERY involves promotion of food fads and other nutritional practices that claim to be ALL-NATURAL
3. DEVICE QUACKERY
3. DEVICE QUACKERY makes use of MIRACULOUS GADGETS (such as dials, gauges, electrodes, magnets, and blinkers) that are believed to cure certain health conditions
How can you avoid the danger of quackery? APPLICATION

Differentiated Activity • Prepare to present it in class • The teacher will present rubrics and allow students to assess their classmate’s performance in their respective task/activity. (Numeracy Skills) • The teacher will divide the class into three groups, she will assign group 1 to act or present a role-play about Device quackery, group 2 will create a slogan about Nutrition Quackery and Group 3 will compose a short jingle combatting Medical Quackery.
