Bulgaria
MAP LOCATION -Bulgaria is a country in Southeastern Europe and is situated on the Balkan Peninsula. To the north the country borders Rumania, to the east the Black Sea, to the south – Turkey and Greece, and to the west – Yugoslavia and Macedonia.
CURRENCY -The Bulgarian lev (BGN) is the official currency of Bulgaria. While Bulgaria is an EU member state, it has not adopted the euro as its currency. Each lev (meaning 'lion' in old Bulgarian) can be divided into 100 stotinki.
FAMOUS PERSON Elisaveta Bagryana was a Bulgarian poet who wrote her first verses while living with her family in Veliko Tarnovo from 1907 to 1908. She, along with Dora Gabe, is considered one of the first ladies of Bulgarian women’s literature. She was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature three times.
FAMOUS PRODUCT/ CULTURE -This bread is tutmanik. It's an amazingly delicious cheese bread rom Bulgaria. Filled with feta and herbs and brushed with layers of melted butter, this bread is so tempting and flavorful.
RELATIONSHIP TO PHILIPPINES Diplomatic relations between Bulgaria and the Philippines were established on November 16, 1973 by signing of a communiqué in New York. Bulgaria was represented in Manila by a trade and economic adviser who also temporarily managed the Embassy until it was closed by a decision of the Council of Ministers on June 24, 1991. Traditionally, until 2009 Bulgaria's Ambassador to Japan was accredited to the Philippines. In view of the Philippines' membership in ASEAN, in 2014 steps have been taken to accredit to the Philippines Bulgaria’s Ambassador in Vietnam (based in Hanoi) as a partner country in ASEAN.
TRIVIA!!! Bulgaria is one of the oldest European countries established in 681 AD. Yes, Bulgaria is indeed one of the oldest countries in Europe with a rich and fascinating history. It has had a continuous existence as a nation-state for over 1,300 years. Since then Bulgaria is the only one that hasn't changed its name.
