Music magazine Media Coursework ideas

Music magazine examples  https://www.mojo4music.com/ https://www.uncut.co.uk/   https://www.rollingstone.com/music/   https://www.kerrang.com/   https://djmag.com/   https://www.billboard.com/   https://www.spin.com/   https://www.thewire.co.uk/home/   https://www.nme.com/   https://www.soundonsound.com/   https://www.thefader.com/   https://variety.com/v/music/

MOJO                             Like I like the whole band but should be lower not directly infront of logo  The list down the right side Don't like  The mojo isnt clear enough  The black and white photo bottom left  Prefer these below, more vibrant and colourful CONTENTS PAGE   Like  The consistency throughout different magazines, making them all look similar The photo used always being on the right of the page in a similar place  The same logo and bit being used underneath each time  Like  The colour scheme  Fits the scheme of the musician  The white mojo stands out and looks really good  The bob before his face and the marley after

Uncut  Like  The colour  behind the logo The hand coming through the U and the guy infront of a part of the logo (but not the whole thing!)  Pink floyd across the middle with a quote above but smaller  The bright bottom left hand corner  The  colour behind writing matches the bottom left colour  scheme

Kerrang! Like The blurry hand/finger and focused face  Same red colour scheme  Like  The slanted bold cover line, same red theme  A lot to do with hands  Like  The beast roars back around his face  The font for iron maiden

DJ mag  Like  The vibrant colours   The direct mode of address  The green red and pink bold writing and the font  Very clear and to the point Like  The colour scheme  Fits the scheme of the musician  The white mojo stands out and looks really good  The bob before his face and the marley after

Sound on sound         dj mag  Like  The slanted font for the headline  The centralised characters merging from eachother   The SOS highlighted in red  I like the fact that there is not much writing near the characters and its nearer the bottom  Like  The colours and the almost disco ball design encorporated   The blue colour The writing in a neon colour in the middle of the page

Dj mag  Like  The same magazine brands follow a similar pattern so make sure I do this with my mock ups and final piece  The logo for DJ mag The first photo as the right side is slighly blurry  I like the second 'the king of ibiza ' and the way that is written  In the third one I like the white background and the blue/purple lighting makes it look different and catches the eye  In the fourth I like the idea of the jellyfish as a hat, makes it different and I like the choice of lighting and colour   All of the DJ mag magazines follow the idea of bright colours or black and white They are eye catching and different  My favourite look and brand of magazine is DJ mag as I like their ideas and colour choice

DJ MAG CONTENTS PAGE  Very clearly laid out  Many pictures to portray what is happening  Also little titles to show what the magazine will be about

Nme   Like  Dua lipas front cover matches her front cover for her song, I like the letter placement for her name  I like the logo for taylor swift's, rihanna's and kasabian's as the all match the vibe/ colour of the photo  They all have different fonts to match the photo  I like the lighting in david bowies cover

Nme contents page Contains  Info is in columns  Same lay out for each one Always have a picture in the centre

Variety  Like  The simplicity of all of them The choice of writing and font on the right 3 covers  The choice of photography in the cover above and 2 to the left

Fader  Like All have same logo some different colour I like the photography choice all of them  Some match to their albums  Mainly centralised for most figures

Fader contents page

Low key lighting Purple/blue lighting  Simple logo but clear  The title in the middle of the image covering a bit of it  Against codes and conventions as there aren't many strap lines  Looks like a poster I like the simplicity

Simple logo Pink and green are opposite colours on the colour wheel  Out of ordinary clothing catches the eye Bold and clear logo of what the magazine is about  A slight bit of information at the bottom, but not too much

Colour scheme from example magazines

Codes and conventions  They all tend to have very bold/clear headlines with the name of the magazine at the top in the middle – some are across the middle of the page  A matching colour scheme  They tend to have something going on with the logo e.g hand coming through or people infront /behind I really like this  A lot have white mastheads The main title in the middle very prominent on the page  The main singer/or band are normally on the front page Bright colours

Traditional  c+c  magazines  All have many strap lines that cover the page and make it look busy.  There is a lot going on in all of the covers, there is a lot to look at.  More often than not, the image quality is worse and blurrier than the more modern magazines that follow newer codes and conventions

Emerging trends new c+c They all are fairly simple, with little to no strap lines. However if they do have strap lines they are either very small or only a few of them. The quality of the image is very high and often the lighting is very different to traditional magazines  Not very much information about the contents of the magazine on the front cover, just titles like 'call super' 'SZA' 'DJ snake' 'the long game' 'becoming H.E.R'
