CROP ROTATION IN TOMATO C rop rotation: Crop rotation is the practice of planting different crops sequentially on the same plot of land to improve soil health , optimize nutrients in the soil, and combat pest and weed pressure. Any legume is a good crop to rotate with tomatoes. Legumes include peas, beans, peanuts, clover, and alfalfa. These crops will help to restore nitrogen to the soil when planted after tomatoes.
IMPOTANCE IN BANGLADESH 1.Crop rotation in tomato not only enhances soil fertility but also can be effective against insect and disease. 2. Plants that fix nitrogen , such as peas and other legumes, improve soil quality for future vegetables planted in the same bed. 3. Alternating shallow-rooted and deep-rooted plants in a given area draws nutrients from the soil at varying depths. 4 . Soilborne pests that feed on one family of plants are hindered because their food source is not in the same location every year. 5. Gardeners and farmers who practice crop rotation do not need to let beds or fields lie fallow (crop-free) as often as they might otherwise ef ective against insect and disease.
METHODOLOGY OF CROP ROTATION IN TOMATO 3 Year Crop Rotation Plan (for Tomatoes) A 3 year crop rotation plan for tomatoes is useful if you do not have much space in your garden. In a small space, it may not be practical to split the garden into 3 or more sections for crop rotation. In that case, plant tomatoes in the first year, a legume in the second year & carrot in third year. Rotate in this manner every other year. The legumes will help to restore nitrogen to the soil in alternating years. Here is what the 3 year crop rotation plan would look like:
COSTING: Reduces weed g rowth ,so require less h erbicide Seeing big soil benefits Lower production c osts by better distribution of labour Prevents the concentration of pests and diseases increase soil f ertility by leguminosae family crop increase Crop Yield & provide better return
My COMMENTS Crop rotation in tomato contributes to increased tomato yields through improved soil nutrition . The use of crop rotation in tomato is an essential strategy that improves nutrient availability, phytosanitary conditions, soil composition and helps to counter biodiversity loss.
