Gender - based Violence : Situation at National Level 30% women in India in the age group of 15-49 have experienced physical violence since the age of 15. 6 % women in the same age group have experienced sexual violence at least once in their lifetime. 31% of married women have experienced physical, sexual or emotional violence by their spouses . 99% cases of sexual violence go unreported. ** Research Data - The National Family Health Survey (NFHS-4) and Livemint. India’s average rate of reported rape cases is about 6.3 per 100,000 of the population. However, this differs in places like Sikkim and Delhi, which have rates of 30.3 and 22.5, respectively, while Tamil Nadu has a rate of less than one.

Gender - b ased Violence : Global Comparison Globally, 7% women have been sexually assaulted by someone other than a partner and as many as  38% of murders of women are committed by an intimate partner.  In some countries, violence against women is estimated to cost countries up to 3.7% of their GDP – more than double what most governments spend on education (World Bank, 2018). Globally, one in three women experience either intimate partner violence or non-partner sexual violence during their lifetime. Intimate partner violence, female genital mutilation, early and forced marriage and violence as a weapon of war, sexual and gender-based violence, are a major public health concern across the world. ** Research Data - The National Family Health Survey (NFHS-4).
