CUB IC NUMBERS What is a cub ic number? A cub ic number is a number multiplicated by itself thr e e times. For example,we have: 3 x3x3=27=3 ³ We write down "3 Cubed" as 3 3 (the little  3  means the number appears three times in the multiplication) More examples: 4 cubed=4 3 =4 × 4 × 4=64 5 cubed=5 3 =5 × 5 × 5=125 6 cubed=6 3 =6 × 6 × 6=216

The Cube

THE CUBE ROOT The cubic root of a number is a value that when  cubed  gives the original number (the root of the cubic number ). If we have 5 x5x5=12 5 , the cub ic root is 125:5:5=5= 125 . The symbol for the cub ic root is:

Perfect Cubes The Perfect Cubes are the results of cubing the whole numbers (1,2,3,4,5…..) Examples: 2 3 = 8 3 3 =9 ……….. 11 3 = 1331 12 3 = 1728 ……….

Other Cubic Numbers We can have cubic numbers in which the root is not a whole number . As example- what it is the cubic root of 40: 3,5 x 3,5 x 3,5 = 42,875 3,4 x 3,4 x 3,4 = 39,304 That means that the cubic root of 40 is between 3,4 and 3,5
