CVT : The Smooth Operator of Modern Cars Presented by MOHAMMED SABIR YOGESH SAINI TINKU SAINI ROHAN SWAMI HIMANSHU POONIA Presented to prof.Dilip sharma sir

CVT stands for Continuously Variable Transmission, a type of transmission that provides smooth acceleration and improved fuel efficiency. Unlike traditional transmissions with fixed gears, CVT uses a belt and pulley system to provide an infinite number of gear ratios. This allows the engine to operate at its most efficient speed, resulting in better fuel economy. CVT is becoming increasingly popular in modern cars. CVT: The Smooth Operator

History of CVT 1930s-1950s: Initial CVT concepts emerge. Late 1950s: DAF introduces Variomatic CVT. 1970s: Subaru adopts CVT; electronic control advances. 1990s: Nissan pioneers electronic CVT in 1992. 2000s: CVTs become mainstream globally. Present: Ongoing development for efficiency and performance. Leonardo DaVinci sketched the first CVT in 1490

Construction of CVT CVT Continuously Variable Transmission Pulley Arrangement: Dual pulley system with variable diameters. Belt Connection : Metal push belt links the pulleys. Control Mechanism: Hydraulic or electronic system manages pulley sizes.

Low-Speed Operation: When the vehicle demands increased torque for initial acceleration, the CVT system adjusts. The belt action causes the primary pulley to decrease in diameter, generating greater torque at the vehicle's starting point. High-Speed or High Gear: Conversely, during acceleration for higher speed, the secondary pulley's diameter decreases, equating to more revolutions. Simultaneously, the primary pulley increases in diameter, establishing a specific gear ratio between them. Sheave Movement: Within the conical sheave, cylindrical rollers, subject to centrifugal force, facilitate dynamic changes in pulley diameters. As engine RPM varies, these rollers adjust the sheave pocket, allowing seamless adaptation to driving conditions .     Working of CVT

LET’S UNDERSTAND FROM A SMALL CLIP

CVT vs. Traditional Transmission Feature CVT Traditional Automatic Transmission Gear Mechanism Uses a belt and pulley system for an infinite range of ratios Employs a fixed set of gears for different ratios Smoothness Provides smoother transitions between gears May have noticeable shifts during gear changes Fuel Efficiency Often more fuel-efficient due to continuous ratio adjustments May be less fuel-efficient, especially in city driving Maintenance Generally simpler with fewer moving parts May require more maintenance due to complexity Cost Less expensive to manufacture Often more expensive to produce

CVT in Popular Cars

Benefits of CVT 1. CVT provides several benefits 2. improved fuel efficiency 3. smoother acceleration 4. more comfortable driving experience. 5. CVT also eliminates the need for shifting , making it easier to drive. 6. CVT can be programmed to simulate the feel of a traditional transmission, providing a familiar driving experience for those who prefer it. Benefits of CVT

CVT Disadvantage 1. Limited towing capacity. 2. Potential for reduced durability. 3. Less engaging driving experience for some. 4. Complexity can lead to higher repair costs. 5. May produce noticeable noise during operation. .

CVT Maintenance CVT requires regular maintenance, including fluid changes and belt inspections. It is important to follow the manufacturer's recommended maintenance schedule to ensure the longevity of the transmission. Neglecting maintenance can result in costly repairs or even transmissio n failure.

CVT: The Smooth Operator - Conclusion CVT provides a smooth and seamless driving experience, improved fuel efficiency, and a comfortable ride. It is becoming increasingly popular in modern cars and is expected to become even more common in the future. While it does require regular maintenance, CVT is just as reliable as traditional transmissions when properly maintained.
