General Guidelines and
Criteria for Judging
IndAkad General Guidelines
1.The dance performance and competition are open to all bona fide Gardner College-Diliman Grade 12
students.
2.Dance categories for the performance or competition are the following: folk dance, festival dance, and
street/hip-Hop dance.
3.The duration of each dance performance in all categories should be a minimum of 3 minutes and a maximum
of 10 minutes.
4.No vulgarity, obscenity, or explicit contents are allowed.
5.Accessories may include items such as hats, scarves, caps, gloves, jewelry, etc. Removing pieces of clothing
during the performance is permitted, provided it is not offensive or out of character.
6.All costume malfunctions resulting in team members being exposed are grounds for deductions. Please make
sure to have dress rehearsals prior to the competition to work out any costume problems.
7.Each group competition song must be given to your PE. teachers two days before the said competition.
8.A time limit of 10 minutes will be enforced, and correspondingly, one point from each judge’s total score shall
be deducted in the event that the time limit is exceeded. The time of the performance starts with the first note
of the music or the first movement, whichever comes first.
9.All competitors will be assigned numbers for the competition through the drawing of lots by the PE. teachers.
10. All your backdrops and props that will touch the floor must be made of paper or plastic only. If there are
instances where you will be using wooden, metal, etc. raw materials, you are obliged to put a styro or cloth on
the base of your props or backdrop that will protect the laminated flooring of the venue.
11. Lifting is allowed as long as it is only composed of two people and it must be accompanied by spotters.
Every group that will not have spotters during the lift will be given a 1-point deduction for every judge.
12. The throwing of confetti and other props is allowed, but the performers are responsible for cleaning them
after their performance. Any mess or dirt that will be left on the dance floor will serve as a 1-point deduction for
each judge.
13. The following are strictly not allowed in the performance:
Use of live animals
Use of real fighting armor (e.g., sword, knife, guns, arrows, spears, etc.)
Use of any form of liquid (e.g., blood, oil, water, etc.)
Use of fire, candles, and any pyrotechnic materials.
Breaking of glass, pots, etc.
14. Failure to comply with any of the foregoing guidelines will result in disqualification.
15. The judges’ decision is final and unappealable.
Reminders during the day of performance or
competition
The venue will be Barangay Bagong Pag-asa Covered Court, Diliman, Quezon City.
The call time is 7:00 a.m. Participants will not be allowed to enter the venue after 7:30 a.m.
You can bring your big and heavy props to the venue the day before the said event starts at 5:30 p.m. (still for
confirmation)
All participants are required to bring their own bottled water (one gallon for the whole group), breakfast, lunch,
and snacks that will help you boost your energy.
Each participating section will have its own designated area.
All your trash must be put inside the proper trash bin.

Criteria for Judging – Folk Dance Category
Expression and Emotion (15 points):
Facial Expressions: The performers must convey the emotions and storytelling aspects of the dance through facial expressions.
Emotional Connection: The dancers were able to establish a connection with the audience and express the intended emotions of the dance.
Costume and Presentation (15 points):
Costume Presentation: The costumes are well-presented in terms of cleanliness, appropriateness, and overall visual appeal.
Stage Presence: The performers exhibit confidence and stage presence throughout the performance.
Authenticity (20 points):
Traditional Elements: The dancers must reflect the authentic cultural and traditional elements of the chosen folk dance.
Costume and Props: The costumes and props must be appropriate and in line with the cultural context of the dance.
Choreography and Execution (40 points):
Creativity: The dancers must show creativity and innovativeness in the choreography while still maintaining the essence of the folk dance.
Transitions: The transitions between movements and formations are smooth and well-executed.
Variety: The choreography incorporates a variety of movements and formations.
Precision: The performers execute the dance movements in terms of timing, coordination, and accuracy.
Technique: The dance techniques and steps were performed correctly and with proper form.
Overall Impact (10 points):
Entertainment Value: The overall performance is engaging and entertaining to the audience.
Audience Engagement: The performance captures and maintains the audience's attention.

Criteria for Judging – Street/Hip-Hop Dance Category
Musicality (15 points):
Interpretation: The dancers interpret and express the musical elements, such as rhythm, tempo changes, and accents.
Connection to Music: There is a strong connection between the dance movements and the music, enhancing the overall performance.
Costume and Presentation (15 points):
Stage Presence: The performers exhibit confidence, charisma, and a strong stage presence.
Costume Presentation: The costumes are well-presented in terms of cleanliness, appropriateness, and overall visual appeal.
Style and Originality (20 points):
Hip-hop Style: The performance embodies the core elements of hip-hop style, including attitude, swagger, and authenticity.
Originality: The routine brings something new or unique to the hip-hop dance scene.
Choreography and Execution (40 points):
Creativity: The dancers must be creative and innovative in their choreography to give new perspective to the genre. Syncopation: The
movements sync with the rhythm and beats of the music.
Complexity: The dance must be complex and challenging, showing a high level of skill.
Precision: The performers execute the dance moves in terms of timing, synchronization, and coordination.
Technique: The hip-hop techniques, such as isolations, pops, locks, and freezes, were performed with skill and accuracy.
Overall Impact (10 points):
Entertainment Value: The overall performance is engaging and entertaining.
Audience Reaction: The performance resonates with the audience and creates a lasting impression.

Cultural authenticity (20 points):

Coordination: How well do the performers coordinate with each other in terms of timing, spacing, and synchronization that symbolize the
different meanings of the festival?
Choreography, Execution, and Technique (40 points):

Technique: The dance techniques were performed with skill, considering the specific cultural and festival-related dance elements.

Style and Versatility (20 points):
Adaptability: The group demonstrates proficiency in the dance styles they perform, which showcase versatility.
Style Authenticity: The performed dance style is represented authentically, with attention to details such as posture, gestures, and
expressions.
Choreography (40 points):
Creativity: The dance choreography is original and demonstrates the style of the performed dance genre.
Transition and Flow: The transitions and blockings are smoothly performed and are applicable to the specific dance genre.
