About This Presentation

Defibrillator machine: it is a machine which provides shock to patient directly to the heart or externally when patient encounter with cardiac emergencies such as cardiac arrythmias, irregular heart beats .etc.
It helps in to regularise the irregular heart beats.

OVERVIEW Defibrillator machine NEED FOR A DEFIBRILLATOR PURPOSE OF A DEFIBRILLATOR TYPES OF DEFIBRILLATOR AUTOMATIC EXTERNAL DEFIBRILLATOR ICD(implantable cardioverter defibrillator) WCD’s(wearable cardioverter defibrillator)

DEFIBRILLATOR MACHINE It is a device which is used to send an electric shock to heart to stop an extremely rapid irregular heartbeat and restore the normal heart rhythm. The process by which this electric shock is administrated is called defibrillator. It is a portable electronic device that automatically diagnose the life threatning cardiac arrhythmias of ventricular fibrillation .

NEED FOR A DEFIRILLATOR ventricullar fibrillation is a serious cardiac emergency resulting from synchronous contraction of the heart muscles. Due to ventricullar fibrillation, there is an irregular rapid heart rhythm. ventricullar fibrillation, can be converted into a more efficient rhythm by applying a high energy shock to the heart. This sudden surge across the heart causes all muscle fibres to contract simultaneously. The instrument for administering the shock is called a defibrillator. Possibly, the fibres may then respond to normal physiological pacemaking pulses.

PURPOSE OF DEFIBRILLATOR It is performed to correct life threatning fibrillation of the heart, which can result in cardiac arrest. It should be performed immediately after identifying that the patient is experiencing a cardiac emergency, has no pulse and is unresponsive.

TYPES OF DEFIBRILLATOR There are different kinds of defibrillators viz ; Automated external defibrillator (AED). Implantable cardioverter defibrilllator (ICD). wearable cardioverter defibrillator(WCD).

AUTOMATED EXTERNAL DEFIBRILLATOR These are defibrillators that use computer technologies thereby making it easy to analyse the heart rhythms and effectively determine if the rhythm is shockable . They can be found in medical facilities, Government offices, Airports, Hotels, Sports stadium and Schools

IMPLANTABLE CARDIOVERTER DEFIBRILLATOR(ICD) Also known as automatic internal cardiac defibrillator(AICD). They constantly monitor the patients heart, similar to a pacemaker, and can detect ventricular fibrillator , ventricular tachycardia, superventricular tachycardia. When an abnormal rhythm is detected, the device automatically determines the voltage of the shock to restore cardiac function.

CARDIWEAREABLE OVERTER DEFIBRILLATOR(WCD ) Further research was done on the “AICD” to bring forth the WCD. It is a portable external defibrillator generally indicated for patients who are not in an immediate need for an “AICD”. This device is capable of monitoring the patient 24 hours a day. It only functions when its worn and send a shock to the heart whenever its needed.
