Executive Summary In process manufacturing, the relevant factors are ingredients, not parts; formulas, not bills of materials; and bulk materials rather than individual units. Manufacturing bulk production that involves a very specific combination of ingredients, some with short shelf life, brings unique planning challenges to process manufacturers. Planners need to be able to scale the ingredient requirements to match batch quantities; and at the same time calculate the by-product and co-product outputs and align supplies or ingredient usage with effective dates. What makes the Oracle solution unique is support for process and discrete manufacturing within the same organization. For example, Supremo manufactures sports drinks and bottles these in cases of varying sizes. With mixed-mode, elements of discrete and process are combined in the same organization, increasing on-time order fulfillment, higher asset utilization, and faster response to demand changes. Story Line and Personas Supremo produces and bottles sports drinks. This process creates a co-product, fruit pulp that Supremo sells to downstream industries such as dairies (for use in ice cream and smoothies) and confectioners (for use in sweets and jellies). Gideon Larkin, the planning manager at Supremo receives an inquiry from sales on availability of orange pulp for a new customer opportunity. It is critical that Supremo meets demand to build their reputation in this new market. Supremo manufactures fitness equipment, wearables and sports drinks. One of Gideon’s responsibilities is planning the production of sports drinks. This includes ensuring the planning process is carried out on a timely basis and quickly resoling any issues that arise. Meet Gideon Larkin, Planning Manager, Supremo Fitness 11

Process Manufacturing Planning Oracle Confidential Gideon modifies the planned order quantities to produce more orange pulp and recalculates. He drills into the build plan for the orange drinks. He enters manual demand in build plan and recalculates to see the impacts. The projected available balance is now positive indicating Supremo can meet the demand. Having confirmed Supremo can meet the demand, Gideon contacts Sales with the good news. This has driven projected available balance negative. While reviewing the plan, Gideon Larkin, the planning manager, receives an inquiry from sales for Orange Pulp.
