Elastomer is a term for rubber-like impression materials; its synthetic materials consist of large molecules, or polymers, joined by a small amount of cross-linking. All the elastomers in this lecture are relatively dimensionally unstable (because their setting reaction produces by-products) except for the addition of silicon, which is the most stable elastomeric material among them since it doesn’t make any by-products on setting.
